Dd will be 18 months when the new baby comes(in 6 months). Right now we have a king size bed and a cribe sidecar attached. Dd starts in the sidecar & ends up in bed attached to me after 3 or so hrs.
Any suggestions for how to add a newborn to the mix? Dh is very supportive and will do anything asked of him. I am also open to changing our bed arrangement as we have a lot of room. I'm not sure I would get any sleep if I had one on either side of me?

When I added a baby to our family bed with three yr old dd I had her sleep in the middle and kept baby on the outside or I put him in attached bassinet. It was an adjustment at first for everyone but dd especially needed attachment with new baby around so I opted against any major changes for her. Sleep arrangements evolved naturally over the first year in a very natural and gradual way. Trying to make changes before baby seems futile since older siblings tend to regress with new major life changes like a new baby. I say be flexible and know that it will evolve when baby comes to a place where all are safe and happy sleepers.

like PP said, I added baby to the outside (next to a bed rail) and DD1 (then DD2) stayed in the middle.  It really helped with the transition.

Now that DS is here, DD1 has a twin bed in our room, but not attached, DD2 is on the wall side of the bed, and DS is between DH and I (DD2 really moves alot and DH can't handle her sleeping there)
