Im in search of a king size mattress that would be going on the floor, preferably either organic or simply without flame retardants and as few chemicals as possible. Ive found an organic futon mattress that looks promising and have been looking into the IKEA beds because they seem reasonably priced, but Im unsure of whats IN the IKEA beds. Im driving myself crazy with all of this bed research so was hoping I could find someone with advice whos been in the same situation.

Another question for those that have a mattress on floor...is it necessary to put anything underneath mattress for extra support or to protect it? Thanks for any advice offered!

We have our IKEA king mattress on the lowest setting of the IKEA Malm frame, which puts it about three inches from the floor ... We did that to keep a good air flow. We noticed it collected and held moisture from our body heat (4 of us in the bed) when it was on the floor.
As for the mattress, it is confusing. IKEA mattresses have different 'ingredients' in different countries.
No fire retardant in Canada, for example.
Good luck!
