My dd is 26 months old and she has never fallen asleep without the breast... bad habit??? Actually, at nap time she nurses for 20 min or so and falls asleep at the breast; at night time, she nurses for 30 min or so but usually doesn't fall asleep at the breast and I end up "bouncing" her in my arms while sitting at the edge of the bed. I really want her to fall asleep on her own now but I don't know how to transition to the next step. The few times that I tried to lay down besisdes her after breastfeeding she just spent 1 hour or more jumping on the bed next to me (in a pitch dark room!). After 3 or 4 days of that routine I gave up.
Please help!

I don't know if you've tried this or not but it has worked for us. I nurse dd2 down on the couch and read her a book or two. Then she goes up to bed with daddy and reads a couple of books up there. She goes to sleep way better for him then she does for me. Good luck to you!

Thank you for this advice. Unfortunately, my husband is usually not available at bedtime and even if he were my dd just wants her mommy. At 26 months of age she won't go and use her potty if dh is in the bathroom (she is toilet trained) and even though she sleeps between dh and I she won't let him touch her and she is always on my side of the bed. My dd1 never did anything like that!
Anyway, tonite I nursed her for 20 min then I lay down with her... she was quite tired and I thought this would be a good nite to try and let her fall asleep on her own again.Well it took 1hour and 15min of her tossing and turning and me rubbing her feet and back before she finally fell asleep. I'll try again tomorrow and see if it gets better.
