Hi:

Got my 6 year old tested for a school by a known psychologist today. He scored a FSIQ of 151 ( maximum possible is 160) and a full score of >99.9 percentile. I understand this is good but how good is this? And is there any suggestion on schooling for these kids?

Appreciate your inputs

Thanks a lot.

That's a very high score, in the Profoundly Gifted range (depending a little on the test). His score may not be entirely stable or accurate until age 8 but it's a strong indicator of a high level of giftedness.

How good it is is debatable. It is likely to create some significant difficulties getting appropriate educational challenge for him.

How happy is he at school? How is he coping? Those answers are of more importance than his IQ score.

Those are very high scores but determining what he'll need really depends on the personality and temperament of the individual. The difference between people who test in the same percentile can still be pretty dramatic. Some kids in this percentile need radical acceleration, may end up in college at a young age. Others do well homeschooling, unschooling. Some find their place in specialty schools. Some do great in more traditional schools that can offer the individual a lot of flexibility.

Your best bet it to research all your options. Pay attention to how your child is handling different environments and what they seem to particularly want in and educational environment. Do what works best in the present and don't stress about the future too much. What your child wants and needs will change as they grow.
