Hi all,
I don't know if this is the right place to post, but I think it's close enough. I really don't think my 8 month old daughter is 'gifted' (well, she's just a baby!) but after reading around a bit, it seems that she displays a lot of characteristics described in this forum. She's really intense and 'driven' in a lot of ways. That's not the issue though. She's always not been very fond of sleeping because being awake is SO MUCH MORE FUN and lately it has gotten so bad that I am at the end of my rope. She isn't unhappy, and she's MORE than happy to be awake for hours on end, often until 2:30 am or beyond (hence my typing this at 2:00 am). It is physically and mentally exhausting to me. There are period now when she sleeps a total of maybe 10 hours in 24 hours. I just can't believe she can survive on so little sleep. She wants to crawl, pull up on everything, stand, try to walk, explore explore explore.
So what I am looking for is ideas from parents who have children with similar "high-need" for stimulus - what on earth do you do all day? How can I satisfy that little brain of hers? I'm starting to feel like a terrible mother, not just because I am having a hard time keeping up with her, but because I feel like she needs so much more (by saying that, I mean I think she's B-O-R-E-D). There's only so much walking outside we can do, and even then, she's not really happy to be contained in the wrap anymore. We have a variety of toys, books, etc but I feel like I'm in this terrible brain fog and I should be able to simtulate her somehow without feeling like we're wasting hours away looking at the same book, trying to master the same toys, repeating the same activity (ex water play) over and over again etc.
Well I hope I've gotten my point across. We'd really appreciate any ideas at all for keeping an 8 month old busy or tips for living life with a very anti-sleeping baby.
Thanks in advance...
Miriam
