Since a few members asked, here's the update, it is not good
He loves it but isn't doing well at all, I know that sound contradictory. He's so excited every day about going, but somehow his behavior has taken a turn for the worst
He refuses to follow directions, rules and assignments. He argues until bright red, gets angry, becomes rude, and now since a few days has become violent/physical.
I am devastated
I have no choice right now I cannot pull him out, I have first surgery scheduled in January, followed by two weeks of bedrest and 4 weeks of "take it easy", then dental surgery the following month, and I'm hoping leg surgery in April.
They want to get him all the services he needs but apparently they are so understaffed in the ps system for iep that it's going to take MONTHS.
I just made an appointment for him to see a child psychiatrist, she's a friend of mine and I trust her. And I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow for a full psychological evaluation at UNC. That might speed up the process of getting him "services" whatever they may be.
Academically he's doing great of course, except the writing which he hates with a passion... They are challenging him enough to keep him interested, and letting him go to the library for higher grades to borrow books.
I'm really sad that this whole transition is so hard on him, but I still beleive it's the best for all of us at this point, he also need to accept authority other than me and learn respect, which i never really emphasize (mea culpa
)
That's about all for now, he's on Christmas break since today and I'm dreading the 2 weeks ahead

I know I rarely post (I'm pretty intimidated by all the rules and stuff on this board).
I have a 5 years old PG boy. He has social, sensory and behavioral issues.
Due to my health I need to put him in school asap (going next week to register him). I wanted to send him to Montessori but we can't afford it. So public school it will be.
He turned 5 in August so they are putting him in K. I have no idea what is going to happen. He tested at 2-3 years old level emotionally and in behavior, academically he is very advanced, he knows a lot about lots of things as he reads books, encyclopedias and just everything about 6-8 hours a day. He was tested at Duke for giftedness.
I don't drive so I can't go over to the school to talk to them much, my first language isn't English and I can barely understand Southern accent on the phone so really I don't have much in a way of communicating skills
I'm really worried and have no idea what to expect. I know the school I am putting him in is a good one.
Any mamas/papas here with PG children in public school?
What do I need to know? do? say?
I feel so lost, my plan was to homeschool him forever, but with multiple surgeries and therapy coming up I won't be able to for at least a year or two.
I am so scared
