Makes perfect sense...the baby gets so much good stuff through the cord in those final moments, why rush?

It seems like the standard practice where our boys were born was to get them over to the table to check them out and begin giving oxygen as quickly as possible. In one of my births, my placenta was abrupting so I think it made sense to cut the cord quickly. In the other (preemie) birth, I asked them to delay and they did for a little while, but not without really protesting.

i'm still angry about this. my twin a needed ventilating for a brief while, and i swear it was from his premature separation and lack of skin to skin with mother. twin b had brief contact with me and i'm sure that gave her a kick start.

both cords cut immediately, bless them
i'll fight that one next time, if we have a next time
