I came across a letter online by a pediatrician who lives near my in-laws (I WISH he was in my town! ). In it, he claims there was a study which showed a "50% reduction of Asthma in infants who had their first DTP vaccine delayed two months."

Has anyone read anything regarding this? It's of interest to me as we were considering starting our daughter with DTaP at her 2mo check up (as recommended). Obviously, if we can wait another two months to start the series and reduce her risk of asthma, then we will. Or is it significant that he refers to the DTP and not DTaP?

I've not researched this link thoroughly, but I do remember reading about it, and there is a legitimate link. I know that Dr. Sears mentions it somewhere. I actually remember reading that there is a correlation between delaying beginning vaccinations at four months old instead of two months and a reduced risk of asthma (statistically significant reduced risk).

My dd received her two month vaxes (all of them), and based on her reaction and my subsequent researching, I am now a fully non-vaxing mama. So far, no asthma or any long-term consequences. She's now 2.

My DS did not get the first dose of DTAP until 3 years old. He still ended up developing asthma after a horrible bout with RSV. We also have a horrible family history of asthma on DH's side. My DD got the first dose at 2 months, then I delayed the next ones and she does not have asthma but did have eczema. Oldest DS got the DTAP shots on time, had asthma and outgrew it by the time he was 6.
