I'm getting nervous about a reaction my 3 yo is having to her prevnar 13 vaccine. She's never had a reaction to any vaccine before (we selectively vaccinate so she's not fully vaccinated or up to date on much.) She was given the prevnar 13 in her thigh on Wednesday (2 days ago). One day later she complained of her leg hurting and we noticed the injection site was very red, warm, hard and swollen. We called the doctor and they said it's 'normal' and to just give benadryl or use and ice pack, but it shouldn't get worse. (We've used ice, but not Benadryl- I hate having to give some new medicine to her if it's not 100% necessary). Today it's much worse- covering basically her entire front thigh. No return call from the doctor yet.

Just looking here for any advice or comments if you have experienced this before? We just recently moved to a new city and, thus, have a new doctor. (Actually the 3rd since we've been here since we don't get accepted with delaying/selectively vaccinating). I am mad myself for even giving her a vaccine when I haven't even found a doctor we're comfortable with. I feel like a bad mamma today.

I don't have any help to offer, but wanted to stop by and say you are NOT a bad Mama! We all do and try our best, and that is exactly what you did. Hope your sweet girl feels better and that it does not get any worse! hug2.gif

The reaction should be reported to VAERS. If your doctor won't do it, you can.
