Today my 7 yr old son was on his friends bike, i guess the handlebar was rusty. He got a cut from the rusty part. looks like the size of maybe a papercut or a smidge bigger. pretty tiny. i washed it right away. he was vaxed as a baby and got either two or three doses of dtap, so that was around 6 yrs ago. Should i be concerned about tetanus? honestly in the last year ive been looking into getting him vaxed for tetanus. with the Td shot, as he had bad reactions to the pertussis component. But, im scared now. should i take him in and ask about the tetanus immune globin?! thanks so much for any feedback.

Doesn't sound like a concern to me. I think tetanus immunity from the shot he got should last 10 years or more. If you're concerned you should take him in to see the dr though of course.

Also it's not the rust which causes tetanus - it's mostly animal poo - which can of course be present in trace amounts almost anywhere.

I personally wouldn't be concerned about Tetanus from a rusty bike part cut.  I would only be concerned about infections that tetanus shots can't prevent.  Hope he heals soon!

A superficial scratch wouldn't concern me at all with regards to tetanus.
