We are- this will be our fourth homebirth. My husband and I were both born at home, and I didn't realize that most babies were born in hospital until I was in ninth grade!!!!! I was so shocked.

Homebirth - yes. HBAC - no.

Actually, I'm planning a UC-ish birth. UC-ish only because I'm seeing a midwife for prenatal care and she'll come for the birth, but I'm quite certain I won't call her "in time" She knows that and is totally supportive. That's how my last birth went, and I wouldn't change a thing.

And I just got a brand new teak soaking tub for my master bathroom, so I'm contemplating a water birth. My DS is so cool - I had a neighbor ask if I was going to have a water birth, and I said maybe. DS said that was a great idea, because that's what the baby is used to :

Yup, planning a homebirth, but not hbac. I labored at home last time and was really bummed when it was time to leave for the hospital. (I was 8cm when we left.) And I hated being in the hospital after the birth. So this time we're staying home. Yay! And I LOVE my MW. So excited to give birth at home.

We are having a home birth. Our first was a hospital birth (I wasn't very crunchy back then), and I'm really excited about getting to relax and birth my way. I felt like i was harrassed at the hospital about all sorts of stuff. I think we are also going to rent a birthing tub and do a water birth.

See - this is why I came to these boards (I have spent more time in the past on iparenting boards - but not too many homebirthers). I am planning a homebirth (still convincing husband, though). I went midwife & natural with last babe (at the hospital with 15 minutes to spare, home 2 hours or so later!) and decided why go at all this time. (Midwife will come here - no UC for me.)

I need a lot of support to get me over the 'what ifs' and help with my poor husband's terror!

Ann- if you want resources to read (and to leave conviently in the bathroom for your dh to read ) check out the Homebirth board here, its a wealth of info. My dh also worries about the "what if's" but I feel strongly from all my reading, and if something were to happen, we can always go to a hospital then, and probably get quicker attention than I would have gotten being already there.

Another homebirther here I had DS naturally in a hospital and am looking forward to having this one at home. My labor with DS was fairly fast so there is a real chance that the MW might not make it in time for this birth - but I'm ok with that too.

I'm so excited for all of the HBAC mamas! I Doula'd for a HBAC mama not too long ago and she got her VBAC. It was great and I was so happy for her!

Zen doula-mama to my spirited DS1 (2/03), my CHD (TAPVR) warrior DS2 (6/07) & a gentle baby girl (8/09)

We're homebirthing, too. I think I'm the only person (currently pregnant) planning a homebirth on my mainstream board, so I agree, it's nice to have this place.

We did a freestanding birth center last time but it was a disapointing experience to say the least. I'm going into this birth with the wisdom from the first one, though. I am confident things will go great.

Homebirth here, too!! This is our first baby, and after doing months of research, we decided that homebirth is best for us!!

You know, this pg more than my first, I think homebirth is more attractive to me, but I would've needed to choose finishing our basement (over the main floor kitchen/bathroom plan I'm going with) this spring.

I love the idea of not moving from "home", but I don't have any place in my home as it is now that I would feel comfortable having a birthing tub, etc. We only have the one bathroom upstairs, but there is no space where a tub could fit up there. (And a water birth appeals more to me than a home birth!)

On the main floor, I worry that our old house doesn't have enough structural support to safely hold a full tub, plus I would worry about the hardwood floors. I get stressed out by DH's occasional massage therapy appointment in the house because he made one oily footprint stain once!

So, if I had done the basement project, I'd have a "separate" place within the house (I'm an introvert), it would have water-resistant floors and a new bathroom, and I wouldn't have worried about structural support for a tub. But, for my money, I decided to go with the projects I felt were going to make my everyday life a lot better, so the basement will have to wait. I'm pretty hopeful about the birth center, though!

Sorry if this is too far off topic. I do find it interesting how much more comfortable with the IDEA of a home birth I am this time. I just don't think I have the right space as of today to make it the BEST place for my June birth, you know?

Count me in! I had an induced cascade-of-interventions hospital birth with dd, and I'm really excited to be able to do it the right way this time.

I was going to give birth at the birthing center, but now insurance has given us some grief and I really want to do it at home...I think...lol I have a few reservations, but none of them are about safety...

HOmebirth here too, its our first homebirth. DS was born naturally with minimal intervention in a hospital, and for the most part it was great. However, I'm really looking forward to getting into my own bed with the baby afterwards and being cared for by people who love us and understand my wishes!! Also, avoiding that car ride will really be lovely... !!!

I've got to get on the ball collecting all my stuff/supplies, Before you know it June will be right around the corner!!
