I'm not really sure how much I will be on the boards this coming week. I'll give the fast version of what happened to Ruby in this post and when I get a chance I'll go in to more detail.
Saturday at 1:30 am, Ruby woke up crying, it was an unusual cry for her so we rushed to see what was wrong. She had a bit of blood on her crib mattress and she was breathing a bit erratically. My husband took her into ER and came back home with her 4 hours later with the diagnosis that it was borderline pnemonia. There were spots on the xray and they were erring on the side of caution. So we went later to get her prescription filled.
We stayed with her the whole day, she would sleep on the bed and on us etc. We gave her meds at 11:00 am (an antibiotic and a puffer). At 11:00pm we gave her another dose and noticed that she had some congestion. So, my husband picked her up and rubbed her back. She threw her body back and gave him a look of panic. She then went limp. We ran downstairs, called 911 while I gave her mouth to mouth.
They got there quickly and rushed her to ER and it took them 27 minutes to revive her. They give up on children at 30 minutes. She had a mucus blockage in her airwave and we later found out that she went into cardiac arrest.
At 4:00 am (Sunday) I rode in the ambulance to Toronto Hospital For Sick Kids. It was a rough day of keeping her balanced etc.
B/c she wasn't breathing for so long, there was significant brain damage. They tried everything they could for her. In the end, we found out that she had RSV and the mucous was building up in her bronchial tubes etc, it becomes sticky and that is what caused her to stop breathing.
They did the tests to test for brain stem activity and she failed all of them. The pronounced her dead at 12:40pm on Monday the 12th. We gave consent for organ donation but in the end she was denied as a candidate b/c of the RSV etc.
So, at around 1:00 am (now Tuesday), I held her in my arms as they took the breathing tube out and she passed away. She is with Abba now and Jesus is taking good care of her now.
I just wanted to let you all know. We are doing a gift donation to the Sick Kid's Hospital instead of flowers at the funeral on Thursday. We are devestated and go in waves of acccepting it, to wondering why her?
Please pray for the next few days as we have so much to do etc. I thank each of you in advance for your support, prayers and words of encouragement through this very difficult time for us.
