so who's interested in keeping a tribe going after birth? I found the nov/dec 2002 tribe just in time to get connected before they switched to a yahoo group, and I really enjoy talking with other mommas of kids ds's age who have similar parenting philosophies. it's especially great for checking in about developmental phases, like, is your 4 y.o. doing xyz, kwim? I think most of those mommas have been in touch with each other since 2002-2003. does this sound good here? I don't exactly know how to go about it, but I figured I'd toss it out there.

woohoo, this is my first time starting a thread!

It's a good idea, and a yahoo group is easier to deal with than a single thread in the longer forum area. I'm the admin/owner for my 2001 ddc yahoo group, it's pretty easy, and wait!!! We already HAVE a group set up for birth beads, we could just use that? Yes? Who owns that group, is it Barb?

: You're so cute!

I would definitely be interested, I feel such a bond with many of the mama's in our ddc. I would hate to lose everybody in the crowd.

Nic, loving mama to 5 with a SURPRISE 6th on the way.

Yep, I'm in, too! Check this out - I've been on a yahoo group for my march96 and may97 kiddos since 1996! They are still really active groups - obviously we're just going to be together forever at this point.

I'm still involved with my 11/01 DDC too.

Here's the link to the Yahoo Group I set up for the bead swap: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/July2007EC/

Count me in! I own the yahoo group for the Mommy Group that was started when Benji was 3 weeks old. It was based on a class, but we kept up with a yahoo group. Great idea!

that would be awesome. I'm still one on a 'mainstream' forum, and I have a hard time letting go of it (although I should) because of all the time I've spent there.

But the number of times it makes me mad is increasing as some of the more crunchy members are not as active.

I don't really understand why Mothering doesn't host these... seems like a natural progression from EC to 'playgroup' or whatever.

I know there is the newborn forum and toddlers and gentle discipline, but I'm almost overwhelmed everytime I venture there because of the mix of ages/stages... and the sheer number of posts.

Well, of course the number of posts here is overwhelming to me too... but I admit I'd probably have more incentive to 'keep up' knowing that it would continue.

That would be great- I've been thinking how sad I'll be once our ddc is gone.

Mama to James 4-05 and Leland 7-07, and feeling so privileged to be growing kiddo #3 due in September!

I would love that. I'm on a mainstream one still from my DD's pregnancy (so nearly 5 years now), and I'd love it even more if the other ladies had more in common with me. I'm all for it!!

I think it's a great idea. Maybe we could invite the June DDC and the August DDC and call it Summer 2007 Babies or something.

Mom to Andrew (March 1, 2004), Cameron (July 19, 2007) and #3 due in early June.

Well, after a while they close the ddc and we can create a tribe, but it's put in "life with a babe" or something larger like that, and it can get really overwhelming to follow a thread of that size. Think "weekly thread", and that's ALL you'd get for our entire group. So yeah, it might be worth moving to a yahoo board!

I'd love this idea! People do fall off the boards after awhile so having more people to start would make it more fun and interesting. Plus one of my Dec 2005 DDC buddies is in the Aug 2007 DDC.

That's funny, because one of the ladies in the June 2007 DDC is in my Spring 2004 group! Small world...

cool! I was also thinking, as some of you have mentioned, of making it a "summer 2007" group, to include those who want to join from june and august. bArb, do you want to just shift the focus of the bead group to this? and how should we announce it? do you think you'll need a co-moderator? we should probably screen new members, yes?

We could put a new post up here, and in the June and August ddc's as well. Barb may consider adding a few members with admin privileges so she's doesn't have to do all the work, or in case she decides to bow out at any point, etc. we don't lose the group. I do think we should screen, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Hmmn. I know a lot of people dislike the Yahoo group format. Is this the format we're discussing? Is there any way to start a group with a regular bulletin board instead of Yahoo?

I'm only familiar with the Yahoo board format outside of MDC, and it's not something that bothers me. However...if there are other more user-friendly boards, let's check them out!

I'm not overly fond of the yahoo format.. it really confuzzles me most of the time. Are there any free boards out there? I'd be interested in being a mod.... I suppose those are things that we will work out when we figure out where we will be though.

I co-manage a msn group and it's very straight forward... I could help with set up if we went with that type group... but I agree, the yahoo group setup is a little confusing to me as well...

Saw this post...comin over from the August DDC and think this is a great idea. I don't really have any experience on any other type of board but would love the opportunity to keep connected in a direct way to this group. Keep us informed of what you decide!

I'm not familiar with msn, but I have heard that a lot of folks who don't like yahoo groups like google ones (I think?). as far as screening goes, I know on yahoo you just require moderator approval of membership, and usually put some sort of "tell us about yourself" bit in the sign-up. it's pretty painless but we can shop around a bit if folks would prefer-- I don't know what the real differences are between them at this point.

The last time I was on a google group you couldn't do polls or a database... I like those features for groups... although maybe others don't feel the need.

We use the database on one group to keep track of peoples names, babies, and locations, etc.

It is possible that google has upgraded, but just want to point that out.
