While I couldn't find anything to back this up, my midwife told me last Monday that feeling the baby's hiccups down by my cervix was a good indication that the baby was in head down position. She was pretty sure the little one was vertex anyways based on palpating but said that this backed it up further. Just thought this was interesting and wanted to share.

This is what I've been assuming, as I always feel the little "bounce, bounce, bounce" on my cervix when baby hiccups. My midwife also thinks baby is head down based on palpation. Kinda cool!

I was just thinking about this last night!! My baby gets hiccups a lot and I felt them really low last night so I was hoping that maybe he turned ... but then my husband was like, hiccups originate from the lungs and diaphram so it's probably not the head. I don't know if he's right though. I meant to google it but never did.

I feel the hiccups around my bladder. I guess that's where her lungs are? I know she's been head down for a long time now.

The way my midwife explained it, the hiccups would be more likely to cause the upper part of the baby to move/jump much more than the the baby's bottom, and when I thought about my own reaction to hiccups, it seemed to make a lot of sense to me. Even though they originate from the diaphragm, it would cause you to feel the part of the baby that reacted most to them. And I've only ever felt them either around the top of the fundus or right near my cervix, never near any midpoint. I Googled it and couldn't find verification on it, but the way she explained it really calmed my fears. Hope your little one is right where you want them!!

Thanks, that gives me a little hope! My baby actually has hiccups right now and I'm feeling them pretty low. I'm still worried about my baby being breech, but if his head is where it was when we did the u/s at 35 weeks to check, it would make no sense at all to feel the hiccups where i'm feeling them right now.

My baby is head down (waaaaaay down!) and when she has the hiccups, I can actually feel them in my vagina. It seems to make her head jiggle a bit!
