So what are your kids up to for Halloween?
This is our first year of no treat or treating -- my kids are officially too old (only one went last year). Last year I made costumes (which could double for the Ren fest) and I'm taking a year off of sewing. We've been hitting the vintage shops, which has been fun, but we haven't found anything they are excited about yet.
They have a massive party at school (which is what the customs are for) and they are helping in a Fall Fest (fundraiser) which will also be a lot of fun. They are looking forward to dressing up while handing out candy, because when they were little they liked it when people did that.
What's up at everyone else's house?
but everything has pros and cons
DS 18 y.o. plans to visit a friend who's away at college and living in a dorm. I can only imagine what the parties will be like .
DD 15 hasn't trick or treated for a couple of years now. Last month I asked her if she wanted to have a party, but she said no. I don't think she has any plans yet. She'll dress up for school but she hasn't picked out a costume yet.
We'll shell out at home on Hallowe'en. I meant to get the decorations out over the weekend, but didn't get a chance, so we'll probably decorate next weekend. We've got cobwebs and gravestones and some gory dismembered limbs to scatter around the lawn.
Dd plans to go trick or treating with some friends. She has decorated our house already.
We always have a special Halloween dinner and carve pumpkins.
I don't know if we watch a special movie or do anything else.

My 11 yr old is going trick o treating. He and his dog have matching 'hot dog' outfits. On Saturday night we are going to the city 'Hot air balloon' festival which has some inflatables, hot air balloons, and other city type stuff. FREE entrance- of course!
This coming weekend DS is going to a farm/pumpkin patch/old west type thing.

sunday Alli will guide younger kids through an enchanted journey during the day (ie: not haunted/scary just enchanted) but she still wants to trick or treat for the sugar. I don't know what she will be at the journey as the organizers are providing costumes but she will be a "dark angel" for Trick or treat with school friends who are also being dark angles Lily will be an accompanying little regular white angel. I'm assuming that since Alli didn't object to the complementing costume for Lily that we can all stay together although I know that if the other dark angel's mothers let them run off by themselves Alli will push for that and the complimenting costumes will have been a waste.
DS 13 still wants to trick or treat this year. Honestly I think he is too old for it! He probably will still go with some of his friends if they are still going, but 13 is a difficult age! They are too old to trick or treat but too young to go to a party.
The costume is key. If they are in costume, I don't mind giving out a treat. There should be some effort to participate in the spirit of the occasion. Yk, a quid for the candy quo.
Yep, I agree on that! Ds 13 will be trick or treating again this year but he has to go in costume. He'll go as Zorro like he did last year.
DD just informed me that she's not into trick or treating anymore. She wants a little candy, and then wants to watch a halloween movie with me. Personally, I'm thrilled. I'll take any chance to snuggle with my big kid these days!
