Ds is very interested in current events. He wants to start watching the news. He's 10, and will turn 11 at the end of the month.

I really really dislike TV news as I find it sensationalist. I will only listen to NPR and/or the BBC. I also read our local newspaper, but it's not great for international news, and only so-so for all but the biggest national stories.

I suspect, however, that ds might get more out of seeing the news. Is there something that's not too sensationalist and bloody that a 5th grader could watch?

How about something like 'Anderson Cooper' or 'Rock Center with Brian Williams'.  You could DVR the shows and see what the major topics are before hand then skip the commercials and segments you really don't want to see?
