Hello,

My DD was just shown a video about puberty and sex this past week.  I was pretty ignorant about this happening at this age.  Are there any book suggestions regarding puberty geared toward a 10 year old?  I was planning  to get a copy of Our Bodies OUrselves but I feel she is not old enough yet.  She is also having a lot of trouble with her group of peer girls at school and fitting in.  Are there any good magazines or books about peer pressure or just being true to herself.  I feel like there are a lot of emotional changes going on and not totally prepared with resources.  I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

I have so many suggestions. I have a daughter who turned 11 a couple of months ago, and here's what we've had:

It's Perfectly Normal. (The one for kids a bit younger, "It's So Amazing," is good too.) Everything anyone could want to know about puberty. It's on the liberal side, as a warning in case liberal isn't your thing.
The Care And Keeping of You (an American GIrls book.) Has lots of information on new hygiene needs.

As for magazines, I like New Moon Girls. It's great for that age, and might be good for the peer issues. You can find out about it at newmoon.com.

5th grade? That's when they usually cover puberty/sex in school. I also found the American Girl book good.

It is 4th grade and she just turned 10 on Wednesday.  I just got caught off guard with life regardless of the norm.  Thanks for the suggestions.

I also recommend American Girl's "The Care and Keeping of You". American girl is also a good magazine, and I think there's one called "Girls Life" or something...I don't know if those are still around, it's what my sister read when she was that age.

The Care and Keeping of You 2 just came out. I just got it for my daughter and she really likes it. She also likes the first one.
