What was I thinking when I decided to have my DS (13) and my DD (10) get braces on at the same time??!!

It sounded good in theory, having them experience the pain and agony together so they can't tease one another, and they would have someone to talk to who's going thru it at the same time, but last night was the first night and my poor kids were begging for Tylenol left and right! I felt like such a bad mama for putting them thru this! I had braces when I was a kid (twice actually -- stupid dentist!) and I remember the aches and pains...I was hoping and praying that my kids would have teeth like my husband's, but alas, my stupid genes won out and they're all going to have braces.

Anyone else have kids with braces? Got any good recipes for soft food that you don't really have to chew (besides soup)?

ouch. Sometimes a little ibruprofen before the appointment helps, too. I used to get the worst headaches after having my braces tightened. When i was 15 I finally complained to the ortho about the pain, and she suggested taking some about 30 min before my appt, and it helped tremendously. The throbbing can be nearly unbearable.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely remember that for next month's appointment!
