There is a fun article in today's Christian Science Monitor. "Backstory: How to survive your child's freshman year in college". Excerpt:
Quote:
When i dropped my son off at college his freshman year, I decided not to embarrass him by tearfully saying my goodbyes in his dorm room. Instead, I left a heart-tugging letter that expressed, page after page, my love and pride. Three weeks later he sent an e-mail: "Finally read your letter. It was very long."
:

It's funny because it's true.

Hmm, I read the article but did not "get it" because ALL of my friends who have kids in college (about 10 of them) tell me they get calls MULTIPLE times per day from their kids who have cell phones!

In fact, there have been many articles about how cell phones make it harder for kids to really seperate from their parents during their college years.

So I have no idea where this author is coming from!

My daughter just started her sophomore year in college today.

She called a lot last year (from her cell phone). It wasn't quite like the article describes.

Having her leave for college was an adjustment for us. Then as soon as I got used to her being away she was back for the summer. Now I'm feeling sort of sad again, and wishing that the summer were not over.
