I can't speak for Karen MT but I don't think she was dissing other people's body types or saying that matronly figures are more beautiful. She seemed to be pointing out that our culture in general worships one body type over another and many women feel they have to go to extreme measures to achieve a look that is not natural to them.

Well, first off mama you are good no matter what! Yes, at 20 weeks the top of the uterus is usually around your naval.

I didn't mean to come across snarky, I meant more to be sensitive. Because thin is "in" it is easy to forget that a lot of woman still suffer from the same body image stuff on the opposite end of the spectrum. I know a few women who are struggling with this right now so I was sensitive to it being brought up here. I was just trying to point out that her words could be hurtful to someone who struggles with thinness. In fact I was just sitting with a group of young women this weekend and the two girls who have that culturally desired thin figure both spoke about the things people said to them in high school about stick legs, flat chests and the convo got pretty intense as you could tell that it had been tough for them and still affects their body image today.

No offense intended.

Even with the same belly, different people will say different things. I get the twin comments AND the "are you sure everything is okay?" comments too. You just can't win.

Hey Flowers -
I know you weren't trying to offend, and I totally see what you are saying about the body issues as well. For some reason your post just got to me, but that might have been because I should have been in bed sleeping instead of in front of the computer! It's really sad that our society worships those bodies in magazines, but makes fun of those same bodies in real life.

flowers- hope my post wasn't taken the wrong way. I am that twiggy person who gets made fun of. I just understand the pressure all women feel to conform to some ideal image. Everyone always tells me how lucky I should be to be 95 lbs and 5 feet tall- I'm 36 and still I can't eat at my family's home without someone watching and commenting on "Oh, you ate a lot" or "Oh, did you gain a few pounds". My family has been obsessed with my size since I was a tiny kid.

Oh, yes, now back to all the beautiful belly shots :-)

echospiritwarrior- those pics are beautiful. I just love fields of wildflowers. Somehow I always have weird flashbacks to the Wizard of Oz though when running through a field- haha

I think the [img] code is off for the entire forum (?). I don't think I've seen anywhere on the forum where there are 'live, inline pictures' in posts.

Vera~ WOW!! Beautiful pics, AGAIN!! The ones you posted over on the past pregnancy bellies thread were gorgeous, too.
Good luck on the internship, that sounds like it would be such a good experience!

echospiritwarrior When I saw your pics the other day, I just thought they were lovely. What a great day and way to match your surroundings.

Well, I'm finally putting up some of my belly pics. My dh had to put them online b/c I am inept. If they don't work, its my computer-dork husband's fault.

Anyway, here they are . . .
10 weeks: bloaty and not yet pregnant looking
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...ob/10wkssm.jpg

13 weeks: starting to look pregnant. Its funny, I look at this one and think, "Wow, I was so little."
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...ob/13wkssm.jpg

17 weeks
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...ob/17wkssm.jpg

20 weeks: right after Baby and I indulged in a lot of chocolate and waffles in Belgium

Well, ladies. I'm proud to say I'm officially 20 weeks! Or will be tomorrow ... or Friday ... depending on whose 'official' date you check. Me, I declare myself 20 weeks today! http://kgspottery.com/belly/20w.htm (That site also contains three ultrasound pics from last week - when the babe measured 19w4d everywhere but in the legs, where baby measured 20w. Daddy is 6'3", so that was expected.)

I had three people not believe me when I told them I was 20 weeks yesterday. I just took it as a "you're thin" compliment. All three of these folks were strangers to me - having not known me before, they have no idea I've already gained 10+ pounds. All three of them followed their comments up with, "Oh, but you're going to pop very soon!"

And when you do, you are going to have the most unbelievably gorgeous and round baby belly!

Thanks...I guess what I should say is this is what 30 weeks looked like with dd 1 but...for me the second definately showed faster, although weight gain is slower.

Wow! Everyone looks great!
I think I look like the cute pregnant lady but then I I look in the mirror or have DH take a photo and I want to cry: I just look more fat to myself. DH tells me, without me saying anything, that I look great, which is so sweet, I could cry (can we say hormones?)
Despite these negative feelings, here is my latest belly photo: http://web.mac.com/wnkp/iWeb/Site/Be...%20Photos.html

Just gonna have to start working out!

SAHM and loving it with DH, DS (8/4/2007) and DS (10/10/2010)
