Holy Hannah, what a day.
My other thread explained how I was having so much chest pain/breathing since last week.

Well, DH left on a business trip yesterday morning and by afternoon, the pain was getting worse. I was having so much pain while breathing. I couldn't sleep on either side and called him in Las Vegas at 1:40 AM crying.
I slept in 1 hour chunks.

My Dr. told me this morning that he felt it was a pulmonary embolism. He insisted I go straight to the ER.
I had the IL's meet me there and they took DD.
This was at 10:00 AM.
I finally went back to triage and said the pain was getting worse/having more trouble breathing-so at 12:30 I got back to the exams.

At 1:45 I was finally seen.
He sent me to the Cancer center for a lovely chest scan.
This entailed getting lost in a massive 100 yr old hospital and huffing and puffing the whle way and being sent in circles by staff.

Then more waiting and falling asleep sitting up.

Then inhailing radioactive oxygen, 6 scans, then being injected with more radioactive crap, then 6 more scans.

All to be told no, it's not a PE.
Back to the original ER.

Then finally being told I have plurisy. (ironically, one of the 3 things I suggested to my GP this morning)--An inflamation of the sac around the lung)

DH flewhome from Vegas to middle Canada and just got in 30 mins ago and is now out getting my demerol.
I am in a world of hurt.
I've never hurt like this before. I think this may be worse than my labor/c/s!

And now, I think it is crossing over the midline to infect my right side.
The only thing that could be worse is if I develop pericarditis too. (Inflamation of the sac around the heart)

Please think happy thoughts that I get over this and can breathe and move again soon!:

Oh my gosh mama...

*********I had basically the same thing when I was pregnant w/ my son... It started as severe chest pain, I could only describe it as someone put a heavy safe on my chest..

They too thought it was a pulmonary embollism.. It was found that I had pericardial effusion (a sac of excess fluid on the anterior part of my heart).. The pain subsided (onset was at 14wks).. For me it did return at 22 wks, but not nearly as bad... Both times the pain subsided in about 7ish hrs.

I had many echocardiograms and ekg's... It was found that the fluid bascially diminished at my 8wk post-partum check...

I already had my heart looked at this time around, and there is very minimal fluid..

**I hope you were okay w/ the scans.. I ended up having a ctscan w/ contrast, but I know they really aren't safe during pregnancy... But again with the thought of a embollism, it's either that or death...

Please pm, me if you have any questions..

You poor thing. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I can't imagine that much pain and why the heck didn't someone escort you in a wheel chair to the other facility? You could have passed out or collapsed.

I hope the Demerol takes the edge off of your pain. Did any of the Drs suggest why this happened to you or is it another mystery of pregnancy?

Please take it easy and know you are in my prayers.

Not in your ddc but I've had pleurisy before so I had to offer my sympathy. It's awful!! I think pg hormones might make one more susceptible to it as I had my case when I started on the bcp. Please take care and take it easy.

I had the same symptoms and same tests done on Monday. I'm coughing so hard and often that I'm pulling muscles in my back and wetting my pants! and it's hard to breathe, like an elephant on my chest.

The first ER run was on Wednesday last week, Rx'd for pneumonia. Monday with no improvement I went to a different ER and had many many tests including the nuclear medicine VQ test. They said it was bronchiolitis and impetigo. They gave me percocet for the cough and by golly it works. 325mg tablet took the cough away but makes me loopy. so I'm trying 1/2 tablet, not as loopy but still coughing.

Good luck and healthy wishes. Drink lots and get as much rest as you can. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone in your misery.

Love and Light,
Bryanna

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and well wishes!

I had a very hard night last night. The pain was increasing steadily all afternoon. I was gasping/panting while at the IL's picking up DD.
She fell asleep in the car and I just put her straight to bed.
DH finally arrived home from Las Vegas and shortly after, I was on all fours and panting and groaning like a wild animal. No question in my mind-if I didn't know the results from the VQ scan, I would have called 911, thinking I was dying. It was THAT bad! As it was, I told DH a few times I needed to go back to the hospital. Luckily the Demerol finally kicked in and I no longer cared.
I have NEVER experienced pain like that. It seriously made labor and a c/s feel like a joke.
I had two horrendous episodes last night when I finally screamed for the Demerol. It finally kicked in but only took about 80% of the pain away.
I was told to drink and pee every hour or so to eliminate the radiation to protect the baby. So I was waking often to pee, and hit DH b/c he was snoring. It wasn't a fun night

We went in to see my GP today and while speaking to him, I had another episode-though not as acute as last night.
He changed my perscription to a more baby friendly narcotic, which is wierd to have those 3 words in the same sentence.

He is very confused how I got this as it doesn't follow the regular pattern.
Plurisy usually comes on slowly after being ill.
Mine came on suddenly after no illness. I hae no fever/chills/cough.

The other possible causes were a big reason why we went in. Cancer, Lupus, RA etc.
He wouldn't send me for a chest X-ray to rule anything else out but said to wait until the baby is born.
I sure hope I don't have cancer-6 months is a long time to wait to find out!

The Dr. thinks the pain will last another 2 weeks. So Tylonol every 4 hours. Lovely.

Thanks again for your warm wishes, they are so appreciated!

I can't even imagine what you are going through. Please keep us posted and I hope you are able to keep some of the pain at bay with the 'baby friendly narcotics' and tylenol. I wish I had some other comfort measures to offer. Pain is miserable.

You don’t owe them an explanation, just a response.

Oh, yuck! I hope the painkillers do a better job soon. DH had this as a complication of pneumonia a couple of months ago, and it was awful (before that, I'd only heard of plurisy as the thing the girl in "The Glass Menagerie" had ). It took a long time to recover, and having a little one at home sure doesn't make it easier. Do you have someone who can care for DD while you recover? You really need to stay inactive for a while (like I need to tell you that after you've taken Demerol!)
