I am reposting this for Aimes. (Aimes, please let me know if you want anything changed or deleted).

The twins were born yesterday July 25th 2007. I was 26w5d pregnant.I had been contracting off and on since 20 weeks so holding onto the boys for 6 weeks and 5 days was a good accomplishment. We are incredibly sad that the boys just couldnt wait and we have a relatively long NICU stay ahead of us. Starting Sunday night contractions got really bad, coming really close together and lasting longer than they had been. Some were more intense than others and I was very uncomfortable. I wanted the meds to work so bad even though they made me feel like crap. Tuesday night I knew it wouldnt be much longer until the first was born. The contractions were unbearable and there was alot of pressure on my cervix. I called the nurse in because I was so uncomfortable and I was dialated completely and was told not to push. That was hard because I felt the urge to push. At that point I just wanted to make it one more day. I was doing ok, the contractions seemed to ease up a bit and I thought the little guy was playing tricks on me. I fell asleep kinda since I was so exhausted and woke up around 4:30 with more intense contractions. I woke my husband up and my mom who were in the room. The girls were also there and they woke up. I felt down and I told hubby to look down there and the baby was crowning. They got the nurses, drs, and the NICU staff down. Pierce Kent was born at 4:59 AM weighing 1lb 4oz and 11" long. And then everything seemed to stop. No more contractions. I went back to sleep for hours until the contractions started again. Around 6pm the contractions got regular again and I knew the other little guy was coming. I was hoping that he would hold off maybe just one more day but he wouldnt. He was too anxious to make his appearance. I tried to hold him in but that didnt happen and at 8:15pm Lincoln Cole was born weighing 1lb 14oz and 12.5" long.

Welcome Turner Hawkins Sargent (6 weeks premature)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just wanted to let everyone know that I went into pre-term labor yesterday morning at 2:30am. Baby Turner was born at 8:58am August 23rd weighing 5 lbs 7oz and was 18.5 in. He is doing really well and is in the NICU. (I ended up rupturing my sac on Monday night and went to the ER, then transfered code 3 to Alta Bates in Berkeley. They managed to stop my labor and put me on bedrest. I was just accepting the fact that I might be in the hospital for 6 weeks when he decided it was time to be born).

I got to have my VBAC and didnt have an epi or augment labor or anything. Don't know how the insurance will work out, but that is the least of my concerns. Turner is doing really well and has been latching on to nurse like a pro. They are still concerned that he isn't getting "enough" fluids, and he still has an IV supplimenting him, but theyd like to wean him off the IV soon...like in the next few days. But no resp. issues. He may need some photolight therapy, but I'll know more about that in the morning. They say they'll release me tomorrow but he'll probably have to stay for at least a week or two. I'm hoping not that long, but we shall see.

I wanted to thank everyone for their support and for taking the time to answer all my questions on this forum. (I still can't believe he came so early)!!!

Isabella Lourdes Sofia is here!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 weeks early, but doing well and HOME!!!

My water broke on Sunday and Isabella was born at 1:01 am on Sept. 3rd - Labor Day! She already has a sense of humor.

She is doing much better than the NICU team predicted, but did need some help initially getting her little lungs to work well and has dealt with pretty severe jaundice (cleared up with an overnight stay under the bililights) and a moderate VSD. Her cardiologist thinks that will close on it's own over time, but we will have to be watching it closely. It's been an emotional roller coaster for daddy and me, but in the end we have Isabella and that is now the only thing in the world that matters to either of us. She got to come home today and we are trying to adapt to the "triple feed" schedule that she's on since she's early. Hope you all can avoid that - it's challenging!!!

James Isaac is here!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My little boy, James Isaac, was born at 5:15 this morning, a water birth at the center. He was 7 lbs, 3 oz, and 20 inches long. Perfectly adorable and healthy.

I felt some strong contractions last night... DH and watched the ANTM marathon while we waited them out. Got to the birth center around 12:15am. I was only two centemeters, so the midwife got some z's while I hung out with DH and my doula. She checked me at 3 am and I was almost 6. Got in the tub. An hour later I was in transition... I pushed twice around 5 am and out he came.

Of course, it wasn't quite that simple. But overall, a really beautiful, low-key experience that I'm very proud of. James is gorgeous. I can't wait for his brother to meet him.

Thanks to all of you for the support over all these months!

She's Here!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yay! I felt like this past month I've been waiting to write this email, and now here I am...I'll have to write more later. But, for now, our beautiful little baby girl was born happily and speedily (after all of that prodomal labor!) at home in the bathtub. Her papa and midwife caught her.

Name: Alice Lucina
Born: Sept. 16th, 6:59 pm
7 pounds, 6 ounces
19 inches long

Hmmm...I'll have to figure out a way to share pictures?
Good luck to all the other mamas awaiting their little ones, and congrats to all the new mamas. Feels good (and tiring! ) to be on here on the other side now. Whew!

I posted in Sept. too since my due date was adjusted later in the pregnancy to a mid-Sept. date, but this feels like home to me too!

Surprise UBAC!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My VBAC baby was born at home this morning into his daddy's hands. I am on cloud nine. He is pink & perfect & nursing like a champ and besides a small tear I feel great. His birth was so intense, surprising, vicorious and HEALING!!!!!!!! The instant he was out I said "that was so much fun!" His birth was not how I 'planned' but it was everything I needed and could have wanted. God graced us with everything we asked for this birth and we are so thankful to him and our hearts are just so full.

Reposted for Hammycakes:

Well, I went to bed as the contractions were very mild and there was no meconium, just a bit of bloody show. I got up and timed them in the middle of the night and they were close together but didn't last long, and when I laid down in the bed they spaced out to be 15 minutes apart and very strong.
The next am, I called the midwife to let her know and she immediately scolded me for not calling her right away , asking if I knew the results of my Group B strep results. I said no, she had told me that I wouldn't get the results until my next visit so of course I didn't.
Well, she said I needed to come in right away, so I dropped off my 7 yo at school and the dog at the kennel, took a shower and packed some stuff, messed with the car seat and we went in
When I got there, my contractions slowed to nothing and I was only dilated to about 3, and it turned out that my Group B was positive so they ran an IV of antibiotics. Then the mw came in and said I needed pitocin since I had "dilly-dallied" around and wasted 14 hours while the Group B could be colonizing and infecting the baby. I told her not to scold me since the last time I had a baby they didn't even test for it and no one had told me that I needed to come right in in that situation.. yadda yadda yadda.. what a great start, huh?
Then the baby turned out to be OP, and that with the combo of the pitocin and my water being broken caused the contractions to be absolutely vicious. I made a deal with myself that if she checked me and I was past 6 I would go without anything- but when she did after 2 hours of horrrible contractions I was only 3.5! I was ready to cry at that point and asked for an epidural. That arrived in short order, I could still feel the contrax but they were much more managable, and only 45 minutes later I was 100% and at 10 with only a slight lip left.
My husband stood at my left side and my sister was at my right, and I had to push for about 20 minutes to get the baby's head over the pubic bone which was hard work compared to my two previous babies. I had a mirror and was pushing with all my might to bring her down, only to see the top of her head recede when I stop. Finally her head crowned and she was a bit blue, with the cord around her neck. So I stopped pushing and they flipped they cord off, then I pushed once more and she was out with no cuts or tears. I put her on my belly and she started to pink up, but she had quite a lot of fluid in her lungs and they had to really suction her to get it out. My dh later said he was a little scared when he saw her, but I was listening to her heartbeat on the monitor and it always sounded good to me so I wasn't worried.

Hazel Nisse was born at 3:41 weighing 7lbs 8.5 oz, and 20.5 inches long. She has tons of black, black hair, big fat cheeks, and looks exactly like her daddy. Supposedly she was only 36 weeks +6days gestation so I had to go through a bunch of extra crap at the hospital including blood sugar checks and car seat check.. but after only 26 hours we were home in our own bed.

I know it sounds like an interventionist nightmare, but honestly my labor nurse was so awesome, my midwife made up for scolding me by being very supportive, and it all went by so fast! It was not exactly what I had planned, since I wasn't expecting her for a couple more weeks but all in all a good experience.
Thanks for all the happy labor vibes!

I'll add a picture later, baby is calling!

Pandora Hope arrived Friday morning at 7:18 AM after only 3 pushes!

She's beautiful, she has this absolutely gorgeous tawny cinnamon hair!

She was 6 pounds and 14 ounces, and was 19 1/2 inches long.

We got to come home this morning, and slept all afternoon. She is nursing like she's been doing it for years. CrazyCandiGirl will probably be on sometime soon to say hi!

Baby Louis came one month early!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It took a while, but I finally have found time to let you all know that for reasons known only to himself, my waters broke on 9/14 and 9.5 hours later my little baby boy came one whole month early. I was able to have a totally natural birth thanks to hypnobirthing, support from my awesome DH and a fabulous doula.

He was a little on the small side at 5lbs 14oz, had problems nursing at first due to being borderline premature, so I had to pump for a week but has now got the hang of breastfeeding and is doing great. Maybe when I get the chance I'll post his birth story but for now I am just tired, happy and loving him more than I ever thought possible

Good luck to all of you in the next few weeks!

We didn't make it to October

Introducing Eidie Grey Kruzan, born by cesarean last night at 10:15pm. I’ll post a link to photos as soon as I’m home from the hospital.

I went for an NST and had a couple of contractions, during which Eidie deceled into the 80s for a minute+. Concerned, my doc sent me to L&D for a contraction stress test after another NST. I was there five minutes on the monitor when she deceled again, just as badly. We monitored her for over 4 hours and every time I contracted, she deceled during it, or just after, and ironically I started contracting regularly and was contraction about every 3-4 minutes when we finally decided the cesarean was prudent.

I feel GREAT about it – we did the right thing for her and for me, and I have had nothing but supportive, caring people taking care of me at the hospital. The surgery went quickly and with no complications. Eidie is not with me yet, she’s still in the nursery but I’ve been allowed to breastfeed her despite her prematurity because she’s doing so well. Of course I’d rather have avoided a cesarean but I have no regrets whatsoever.

Eidie (pronounced Edie) Grey Kruzan was born at 10:15pm, 9/25/07. She weighs in at a whopping 4lbs 7oz! LOL She’s SUPER tiny but she’s doing fabulous. I’m healing as well as I can, I’ve been pretty weak all day from lack of food and sleep. I have managed to sleep and eat some today so while I’m tired I’m feeling a lot more like myself.

Feel free to respond via email but we’re requesting some space while we figure out what’s going to happen with Eidie and when we can go home together, and while I recover. I will check email now and then from the hospital (I’m WORN out!), and I’ll post a photo as soon as Randy emails me one that he took today. LOL

blessings all!

overdue birth announcement

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,

Our DS3 arrived almost six weeks early on the 14th of September. He is still in the NICU - doing very well except for having trouble waking up enough to eat so is being fed through NG tube. It has been an exhausting couple of weeks with all the back and forth between home and hospital. We are really hoping he takes off with the eating soon but so far he just isn't ready. He was 5 pounds 7 ounces, 18 1/2 inches long, and was 34w3d gestation. He will have to take all feeds from either bottle or breast and gain weight for 2-3 days before he can come home.

ETA: On a happy note, I did get my VBAC that I was hoping for and also avoided an epidural, although I sure was questioning myself on that one as I was pushing him out!

Our little man arrived yesterday at 5:16am after 17 hours of labor. He weighed in at 9lbs 6oz and 20 1/2 inches long. The shocker is his head, 14.5 inches around AND he came out with his hand wedged up alongside his head. Explains the 3 hours of pushing! Natural labor, no tearing, no episitomy... and I feel pretty darn good (just exhausted).

We're home now enjoying our little man!!

Our baby boy was born in the wee hours of the night on Tuesday! I had been having contractions all through the day on Sun and Mon, but they didn't really pick up until late Mon, and then once my water finally broke they really picked up and he was born shortly after. In fact, he was born shortly after we called the midwives, and before they arrived. So dh caught him!

No name yet. He's healthy and happy and nursing well. My dh is off of work and so I've been able to take it easy and I'm feeling great.

We have a baby!!! Typing from my iPhone at home in bed. Little one was born in the water tonight at 6:08 after a whirl wind trip from water breaking at 6 cm (and at least 80-90% effaced) to birth in 18 minutes!! But after two days of fast- then- slow labor, I'm kinda glad it didn't take any longer. I got to experience much of what I wanted such as knowing right where the head was and catching myself. The huge surprise-- it's a BOY!!! Our third and I was so certain it was a girl. So now we're on the hunt for names.

He's very sweet and super alert. Nursed well right away, has been sleeping soundly despite tons and tons of kisses from his brothers and had a long wakeful but calm and alert period. Now I just need to figure out WHO he is!

Lilah Michelle is here! I had mild contractions all day yesterday. At about 5:00 they picked up and we decide to head into the hospital at about 7:00. At that point my contractions were at 3 min apart. When we got there they checked me and I was at 7 cm. A half and hour later my midwife got there and she checked me I was at 8 and Lilah was really low. She wanted to break my water to make sure it was clear. I had 3 bad contractions after that and then needed to push. I pushed for 6 min and out she came. She was posterier and she came so fast that her poor little face got bruised but she is healthy. I still can't believe she is finally here. I will post pics later. :

Had my baby on Monday

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My water started leaking Sunday night - however the nurse at the hospital did the strip test and it came back negative - according to her. She wanted to keep me and monitor my contractions - which were 7 minutes apart - but I refused and we went home.
Had a bad night since my DD was sick and up every few hours. On Monday I took my daughter in to see her Dr. in the morning - she had the croup and moved up my schedule with my OB from Tuesday to Monday afternoon and I stayed home from work.
Around 11ish in the morning as I was playing with my daughter I felt a HUGE gush of fluid and thought to myself they better believe it this time that this is my water!!!
So I went and showered and then had a light lunch and made my way to the Dr.s office after soaking a couple of HUGE pads.
I got to the office and sure enough there was no doubt it was my water, plus my contractions were quite close but not bothersome.
She scheduled my for the OR at 6:30pm. So I called DH - who was very excited and told him to come home so that we could make our way to the hospital.
Got to the hospital at 4:30pm and the baby was delivered at 6:25pm. He developed a chest infection and will be in the NICU until this Monday - God willing - they have done a battery of tests and it does appear that it is all contained to his chest. He is responding to the treatment and has been nursing like a champ. However his billirubin levels came back at 13.5 today so they will start him on billi lights today as well.
I was released on Thursday night and appear to have developed an infection in my incision as well as a plugged duct - YUCK! So I have been on antibiotics for both. I am staying in a room for NICU parents so that is good - however it is on the first floor and NICU is on the fifth so there is a ton of walking that I have been doing - but it is all good
Keep us in your thoughts/prayers I want to be able to take this little guy home on Monday since I miss my DD terribly and hubby and my mom are ready to kill each other...sigh.
Lu.

Samuel Blessing has arrived!!!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My baby boy arrived this morning after 12 hours of laboring. It was a very hard delivery. This was my third, and by far the most difficult. Not what I had heard at all. He arrived 1 week early and was 9lbs after pooping twice and peeing on the nurses. I would be very interested in knowing what he weighed prior.

I am so happy to have my pregnancy over and have a sweet baby to hold. I need to sleep now, as I was up all night laboring and have been spending the day getting to know him. I asked people not to visit me the first day at the hospital this time, and it has been great having this little break.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

My little boy was born Sunday, September 30th and 9:32pm after having my water break at 2:30 pm. He weighed 8lbs 4.6oz and (including cone head) is 20 inches long.

We've named him Nathaniel John

He is the perfect picture of health. We are working out the breastfeeding which is his most favorite thing to do right now. Infact, it's time to do it again, so I'll update this again later on with pictures and the full birth story.

I'm so happy to be home with my baby boy!

hello all! my beautiful baby Jude was born 2:02 am Monday 1st October at 38 weeks. After labouring at home for nearly 48 hours, including in the birth pool, I was finally transferred to hospital for the last hour of labour due to a very long (4 hour) second stage and my contractions running out of steam, plus my waters broke early Saturday morning... it was traumatic going to hospital but I'm pleased I still made it thru the whole thing without any pain meds or surgical intervention - just the syntocin drip at the end. My baby needed a little help to get breathing properly and was diagnosed wtih jaundice plus given antibiotics bc of my membranes rupturing so early...i stayed with him in hospital till we were finally discharged last night! What a journey. Amazing support from my partner, sister in law, mother in law and fantastic midwives who did everything they could to support me to give birth naturally. SO divine to be home with my lovely little one!

another baby is here

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tristan David was born monday october 1st at 1133

i started having contractions saturday night- i noticed when i got up to pee, but it wasnt bad enough to keep me awake. i had contractions all day sunday (back labor, which seriously sucked- i never felt a "regular" contraction) but it was nothing regular, although they were painful. about midnight on sunday, it got to the point where i couldnt sleep anymore- i didnt want to bother david if i didnt have too, since he had class in the morning, so i spent some time in the shower and stuff to see if it would help, but at about 2 i woke him up and told him i didnt think hed be going to school that day, lol...

we got to the hospital at about 3- i was 4cm..... at about 9 i caved and asked for an epidural, even though i didnt really want one, but thouse back pains were killer, lol... i was still 4cm then.... they got all that done at about 930.....david went to get some breakfast (neither one of us had eaten since 8pm, and the nurse pretty much kicked him out- which is good, he needed to eat), and i started to doze off, since i couldnt feel anything anymore.... about 10 minutes later the anesthesiologist came to check on me, and his heart rate had dropped really low- bad enough that she grabbed an OB walking down the hallway, instead of paging mine, lol, and a bunch of nurses.... they tried having me change positions and all that stuff, and nothing was working. i was still only 4cm then- they tried pitocin, to see if it would make the contractions stronger so i would dialate, and it didnt work, it kept dropping, they tried lowering the dose, didnt work, and even after turning it off, it still kept dropping. i hadnt been hooked up to the pump for the epi at that point, so i was feeling contractions again, and they started talking emergency c-section, and called david to come back..... they finished the epi, and people atarted getting ready.... david got back, and shortly after that they took me in to surgery.

Tristan David was born at 1133, and weighed 8lbs 10oz and was 20 inches long. apgars were 8 and 9, and daddy went with him to the nursery while i was finished up and sent to recovery...... it took nearly an hour to get me sewn up (for some reason i kept looking at the clock, lol) and i think it was about another hour after that before david was able to bring me the baby in recovery- he kept trying to, but they kept saying we have to do this, or this person needs to be here, about stupid stuff until he finally said look its been 2 hours, and my wife only got a glimpse of her baby. the plan was for her to get him ASAP after birth, and while i understand why that didnt happen, this is taking too long, give me my baby- he brought him to me in recovery, and i had him with me the whole time after that, except the trips to the nursery for vitals twice a day.....

we were released on wednesday, a day early.... it was great having david there with me, being a nursing student, he was an awesome advocate for me. they were going to keep me on a clear liquid diet overnight, but he talked to the nurse, and i ended up getting something to eat about 10pm that night.... i still had those stupid hose on that are supposed to help with circulation on on tuesday, after i was up and walking around (and they didnt fit right, and were bunching up around my claves and ankles and felt like they were cutting off my circulation), and he got them to let me finally take them off..... i think he annoyed the nurses, lol, but he made sure i was taken care of... he doesnt get much leave, since he cant miss much class, so he went to work tuesday and wednesday, and is took thursday and friday off, then the 3 day, and hes got to go back on tuesday.

im disapointed with the birth as a whole- everything i didnt want to happen did, and it seems like everything that could have went wrong did. and i cant help but wonder if his heart rate dropped because of the epidural, but theres no way to know that.....but baby and i are both healthy, and thats what matters. next time will be different i know... and it worked out i guess- if i hadnt got an epi, i would have had to been completely knocked out for surgery. the hospital stay itsself wasnt so bad

we're adjusting pretty well to being home. the dogs think hes strange, but arent bothering him, lol.... hes nursing well, and sleeps decently at night.... i get one 3-4 hour stretch, so thats not bad. david is a super proud daddy, and loves showing him off.... im healing well, fine except for soreness where my staples are

i have pics in hubby's facebook account, but im not sure how to link that here, or if you have to be a friend to see them- if someone knows, can you help me?

Anaiah is Earthside after short intense labor!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well ladies, I have now completed a female rite of passage! I am a mommy!!!

Anaiah Conley Murphy "God has answered" was born today at 7:12 am today, 10/06/07, at 39 weeks and 3 days. She was 6 pounds, 11 oz. and was 19.5 inches long. My water broke at 1:30 am Sat. morning and my first contraction came about 30-45 minutes later. The first two were 10 minutes apart and after that they were 4-5 minutes apart until she was born. We left for the birth center at 4 am since the contractions felt so close together and I wanted to make sure her heartbeat was okay since I really wasn't feeling her move (contractions have a way of distracting you I've found) and wanted to labor in water. They did an internal exam (surprised me that they wanted to do one after my membranes ruptured) and I was only 3 cm. I almost gave up and asked to be transferred to the hospital. I got in the tub about 4:45 am and my contractions were unbearable. About an hour or so later she checked me again and I was 7 cm, right at the threshhold of transition but I was already pretty delirious. The birth tub was awesome!!! In between contractions I slept and during contractions I moaned my baby down. I couldn't have done it without the tub and my dh whispering "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" in my ear. About 6 ish (I am told) I felt the urge to push and this was the stage that surprised me most. I hated pushing!! I expected to like it but it really felt like she was moving to a place where she just shouldn't be! Of course, babies are not meant to stay in the birth canal forever so this makes sense right!? I just wanted to suck her back up in me to alleviate the pressure. I certainly felt the ring of fire as she crowned but when her head popped out it felt good! I thought the worst was over but her shoulders brought a little more discomfort and seconds later she was in my arms! Not a single tear!! So far the only postpartum pain I feel is a little soreness in my bottom. Yaaayy!!

Here's a picture of our little miracle!
Pic 1
Pic 2
Pic 3

For what it's worth, I had a midwife appt on 10/3 and was only 50% effaced and not a single cm dilated! I went from basically 3 cms to pushing in 3 hours! And I absolutely BEGGED for an epidural after every contraction!

A new baby boy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't post much on here, but read a lot so thought I'd share. Our new little one was born yesterday October 7th at around 11:32am after five hours of back labor, unassisted birth, DH caught. Called midwife after to check me for tears (first time I didn't need stitches! just had a small tear) and to get the measurements of the babe. He was 6 lbs 10oz, 19 inches - the smallest. We have yet to pick a name. He's nursing great and has my crooked pinkies.

Did have a little scare a few hours after the birth. My uterus prolapsed, couldn't get a hold of the midwife, and ended up taking an ambulance to get checked out because I was honestly freaked out to have part of me hanging out like that. It did retract on the way to the hospital and I was sent home with instructions on kegel exercises so hopefully that will help, have to do more research on the condition. I must say that it is nicer to deal with medical staff when you know you can decline procedures - like the paramedic wanted to give me an IV and a cranky nurse wanted to have the baby admitted just because he was a homebirth. The paramedic was a very nice woman and she was amazed that I chose to birth without drugs, it seemed like she had never contemplated that that was an option before.

Well, I should probably try to get some more rest.
