LOL, I usually avoid those kind of shows - and I don't normally have cable - but just the past few days I haven't been able to help myself. This "Bringing Home Baby" is funny - so I guess the title pretty much precludes having any parents that homebirthed?
Then I saw an induction the other day that was just bizarre - made me realize that what I went through with ds wasn't an induction - it was an agumentation, because I was dilated and contracting, just weakly. They induced a woman who was not dilated at all. They talked about her like she was a science experiment, and then they had her pushing flat on her back with her legs up to her knees and the OB was coaching her like she was a weight lifter or something. It was so bizarre to watch I just thought - this is nothing like any labor or birth I have experienced!
Another one that I couldn't watch - mom's water broke and she and her hubby start RACING to the hospital - she's moaning and groaning about not having had time to get her hair done, or her nails, or to put on make up! Hubby is rolling his eyes like she's nuts. Get there she's 1 cm! Then she's rolling around in horrible pain at 1 cm, and the doctor starts talking to her about a c-section - cause this big beefy woman's pelvis must be too small for her baby to pass through! So I just gave up on that one...
My sil RUSHED to the hospital after her water broke. I mean RUSHED. She was having like 1 ctx every 20 min or so. I was 3h away, so I left pretty quickly, but the baby wasn't born for 15 hours after she got there.
I think it's just CYA policy to freak women out that they must IMMEDIATELY get to the hospital when their water breaks. Mine was broken for more than 36h before I had strong ctx, and almost 48h til she was born.
