Huh...we just had a conversation at work re: bumps. I had mentioned that I wouldn't be buying a "maternity" bathing suit since both my bikini top and bottom are adjustable and I would just continue to wear that one.

Two of the girls in my office were like: Shocked and completely icked out that I would consider bearing my pregnant belleh. To me, I don't see it as a big deal at all. I've seen lots of pregnant women wearing tank tops or bandeaus or bikinis at the beach and they all looked fabulous!!

What's your take???

Well, I don't wear bikinis personally, but I have no problem with pregnant women bearing their beautiful bellies at the beach or anywhere. I think it's awesome! I have a tankini that I will continue to wear (I think, unless it doesn't work) and I know when my belly gets a bit bigger, it won't cover my belly completely.

i honestly have issues w/women (mostly teenagers) who dress like hookers even though they are pg...it's just, idk...degrading? it takes away from the beauty of the bump.

there was one girl at walmart the other day, in the COMPLETE school-girl outfit and her tummy hanging out. it looked rather trashy...

i bought an AWESOME suit @ old navy maternity when i was pg w/natalie. it only cost like $16 and it's so cute and shows off just the right amount to let ppl. know that i'm pg. i'm so glad i get to use it again!

with that said...i'd love to see the bumps on here...but keep your school-girl outfits to yourself LOL:

I HATE one peice bathing suits -- i am long waisted and they either cut into my sholders or "other places" and I can't jump and move and play in them.

I have NOT worn one since i was in grade school.

I have a tank suit -- a sports bra style top with little boy shorts. -- it is more or less what i have always bought. i have ever worn any timy binkis either.

I wore it summer of 2005 when i was getting big with DS

I will wear it this summer.

personally -- i think a pregant belly is CUTE. I like mine a lot.

I think gigantic, bare bellies look hot! Can't wait until I have one to take to the beach. As for midriff-baring tops, well, it just depends.

I'm not a fan of one-pieces, either. I decided to take my weekly pregnancy pics in the same bikini throughout the pregnancy, which I think will take a good dose of courage toward the end. Here's a slightly less brave version, at 7 weeks:

Oh - I think it's totally fine. I think preggo bellies are a beautiful thing. The only things is that something I feel like the woman in her bikini looks so uncomfortable and I feel bad/sore for her.

Bikinis and pregnancy mix very well Though I'm in Europe and most people wear bikinis regardless of age or figure... Why hide it if you're not ashamed of it?

I think it's fine.. it is more about what you are comfortable wearing not what others think, I wear both, not sure what I will do with this one, prob whatever suit is in teh bag of clothes I am borrowing from my friend!! I'm not a fashionista or very picky about these things, I do ahve an outie tho and it becomes an OUTIE OUTIE when I am big so I am not sure how super attractive THAT would be in a two piece!!, DH used to ask me if it meant the turkey was done ! I am looking forward to looking definitely PG as opposed to just getting fat!

I personally wouldn't because I have some stretch marks from my pregnancy with ds. But I don't think it looks bad if other people do. I think some of the two piece maternity suits look a little frumpy-with the longer tankinis.

I have always LOVED baring my preggo belly!!! I just feel like I'm showing my baby to the world and relishing in my womanly figure. Nothing trashy about it- I think it's beautiful! Now....the teeny bopper chicks who are NOT preggo and have everything hanging out...that's NASTY! LOL

If you are comfortable wearing a bikini before you were pregnant and still do once you are than do it. I don't see what is the difference. In both cases it's just the belly we are seeing. And I'm not talking about barely there bikinis, because those aren't nice either way IMO

Me too! I am jealous of other preggo women who feel great wearing a bikini and showing off their beautiful belly though. I wish I felt more comfortable with my flab and stretchmarks.

I do love that maternity clothes can be more fitted now though. 6 years ago with DS the shirts were like tents, like you were hiding your belly! Now they are fitted and you can see the beautiful round shape. That makes me happy.

Exactly how I feel! I've got a beautiful tree of stretchmarks on my belly from my DS. I got some sun on them last year (not from a bikini, just hiking my shirt up in the sun) and they all turned ugly red. So, we'll be keeping them under wraps this year.

Me too I'm honored and thrilled with my pregnant form and will more so as I grow : I like how manernity now has nice items that allow us to be proud of our curves while still maintaining the modesty we desire. :

I love bikinis on pregnant women! I just think it's adorable. But there's a right time and a right place to show off the bump, I think... same goes for any non-preggo belly.

I think it is whatever you are comfortable in. I am with the earlier poster that because of my body type I have a hard time fitting in one pieces regardless. I think there is a difference in someone bearing their pg belly and clomping through the store dressed like a pregnant school girl...lol. I hope to be jogging in a sports bra and belly flying in the wind until my body says otherwise. (Which may have been yesterday...lol....not sure. )

I totally agree -- while i lvoe my preggo body --and i think i look better 6 month preggo than NOT -- it is still "dressed like an adult" and not a 15 year old (course i won't let MY 15 yo dress that way either.... but you know what i mean ).

Bikini at the beach + preggo belly = sure, if you're comfortable.

Tube tope + hip huggers + preggo belly as street clothes = not so much for me! But I wouldn't wear that normally, so...

I don't know what I'll look like with a big preggo belly, maybe I'd be comfortable maybe I wouldn't...but my friend already gave me her maternity suit which is a tankini that covers the belly so when I visit her in Fla. I'll probably wear that. Except that it's Pepto-Bismol pink and there's SO MUCH of it...

I think a bikini is perfectly acceptable for a pregnant woman to wear. I'm also in favor of women wearing sexy clothes while pregnant as well.

I personally won't be seen in public in a bikini, but that is solely due to the belly full of stretchmarks that my 1st pregnancy left me with. I'm happy and comfortable in my tankini. But I do love and look damn good in tank tops and short shorts when the weather is permitting.

If I found a bikini to holster these massive boobies, you betcha I'd show the belly below!

....well, maybe after a good tan and waxing.

Oh, don't pack up your bikini yet! Once you pop out there, the old stretchmarks smooth out quite a bit, and the belly looks good again!

I've only recently started to feel comfortable in a bikini, and I absolutely plan on wearing it through this pregnancy! We just went to the beach last weekend, and I LOVED being out on the beach with my 24 week belly out there.

I agree with PP, it's a baby belly, it's not as if I've bared my pregnant bbs for all to see!

I think people should just wear what they're most comfortable in! If that's a bikini, great! If it's a one piece, great! We (as Americans) are so puritanical about showing some skin and it's really not that big a deal. People should wear what they want and we should not judge.

I just bought two swimsuits for this summer and after much pondering decided to go with tankinis. But not because I'm shy about showing it. I think pregnant women are all beautiful and should proudly display their babies! I got tankinis because I'm in the sun a lot and didn't want to get sunburned.
