I'm referring especially to those of us who do not know whether it's a girl or a boy!

When I was pregnant with DD, we called her Embryetta. It seemed more personal than Embryo. THis time around, we call baby "Frijolito" which means 'little bean' because s/he was about that size for so long.

We are so bad about choosing baby names ahead of time - we don't even have the short list done yet! With DD#1, we didn't have a name agreed upon when I started birthing, and I think after seeing what I went through, DH just caved and said, "Whatever you want to name her is fine!" Ha, ha! Maybe I'll have another long excruciating labor and get to name the baby again!

We called our son "Bun" for "bun in the oven" and this one, even though we know she is a girl, we call Baby. Or we call her by her name. Not very original. I love "Embryetta"!

i do know the gender, however, we aren't telling anyone IRL.. so i'm usually just saying "the baby"...

but, this kid's official nickname is the Octopus Baby... simply because she is so freaking active, i wouldn't be surprised if she came out with some extra arms and legs! there is really strong movement, just everywhere!

I called her "the baby" until my sonogram and she's been Delilah ever since. It helps me with bonding.

We call her "the Whelpling". Before we even found out I was pregnant, I told dh if we ever had another baby, he/she HAD to have this onesie. And it stuck. Yep, we're geeks.

DD was Sprout and this one is Sprig. But I have to admit that ever since DD named the baby of unknown gender Portia, I've been calling it Portia and referring to it as she even though I think it's a boy. That's going to be a hard habit to change!

We know the gender so we call her by her name.

We know the gender but somehow she is still Cha-Cha. I think it came from some name discussion of "Chamberlain" and the fast that there was a famous baseball player with that last name and his nick name was Cha-Cha. SOmehow that stuck.

No matter what name we decide on, she will probably be eternally called Cha-Cha.

Poor baby.

somewhere along the time i started calling the baby "owlie" although really early on, s/he was referred to as all of the following: the sea monster, the sprite, the sprout, and the mean pretzel (don't ask).

robina. unschooling mama and midwifery student.  building my nest with my husband, our daughter (born at home 11/07), our son (home waterbirth 5/10), and our newest little girl (born at home 4/13)!

We called this one Cheddar for a while, but mostly Baby.

We still don't know the sex and mostly call it Baby with the exception of when hubby talks to the baby and calls it by our chosen boy and girl name. He'll say, "Mara or Nolan...."

"Baby." We are so original! Just this morning I actually was talking to him and tried out the name we are leaning towards. It still sounds weird to me but I figure I ought to try to get used to it!

Evan was the Bun (as in oven also) and the Olive

Jay was Junior (we knew he was a boy)

this one I call "this one" or "Little one" or "the baby", Dh still barely acknowledges *sigh* so he has no "name" for the baby in utero or IRL... he really is a great guy, just really really scared (guys act weird when they are scared...)

Before we knew what he was, he was "the gummy bear", and now that he's bigger and doesn't resemble a gummy bear on ultrasound so much, I mostly refer to him as "the parasite", or sometimes "the male spawn", or just "the boy"..

Love that onesie! I just sent it to my brother -- he's a programmer at Blizzard, so he's going to love it.

This one is just "baby", but my DS was "Auggie" from the beginning because my DH wanted his middle name to be after my MIL, so boy or girl it was going to be Augustus/Augustine. Well the name stuck and he's still "Auggie" but he does know his name is Spencer and will say so if asked.

It really does depend on my mood. Mostly Baby... sometimes, peanut, bean, or bun. The kids call him/her Baby. DD will come up and pat my belly and say Hi Baby, kiss the belly and sometimes just stroke it before wandering off. She's also been sticking out her belly and saying baby... Then again, female breasts are all milk, including her own! DSS has been asking for more hugs. He'll say something about the baby if DD is, but that's pretty normal with his autism not to pay attention to really obvious stuff. Mom calls the baby peanut. I think that's partly because of where we live though. My town is home to Mr. Peanut and the peanut festival was this weekend. DH calls the baby "the other little bit" since DD was and still is little bit. Ok, I've rambled on enough...

We have named each of them and use the names often with each other. But we're keeping the names a secret so often I refer to them as "baby A" and "baby B" or "this baby" if I'm touching my belly.
