My DH has also been patronized like that. Sometimes when he has been out with dd in the sling, he has gotten weird looks and comments. Of course, I hope I balance it out with my adoration of his sweetness. And, I don't think they realize how SECURE a guy has to be to do that in this culture.
Don't you mean "matronized"? :nana:

This whole thread just makes me think of all the silly movies out there like "Mr. Mom" and "Three Men and Baby" that make it look like men are incapable of having any parenting instinct (and who could even count the number of television shows with an incompetent dad as a main source of humor?). :

We get all this stuff too, and it is a total pet peeve. I especially hate the "Babysitting?" thing.

I've started a Coparenting/Egalitarian Parenting Tribe over in Finding Your Tribe. I would totally love it if any of you would join.

grateful mother to DD, 1/04, and DS, 2/08

What, are they sitting there in their underwear talking about their periods? (And if so, can I go and wear earplugs?)

A few years ago, I was president of our local MOMS Club chapter. A man e-mailed me and asked if he could be a member since he was a SAHD. I told him I would have to check with the group (which I did, by "law"). Since I didn't have a vote, I tried to do my job and be neutral, but I'm sure I was clear that it would be a good idea, but wouldn't you know, no one voted yes to let him in. I felt so bad telling him. He took it well and understood. But do you know the main reason the women didn't want to - they would be uncomfortable bf-ing in front of him. I don't even want to go into how few women bf in the group and those that do, don't do it for long, but that didn't matter.
