Because we all really need more excuses to make cookies, right?

Seriously, though. I ate these all through my breastfeeding relationship with Elliot and they really did help my supply, especially when I was pumping (or more accurately, failing to pump) at work. Plus, they're SO YUMMY! And we all need more excuses to eat cookies.

Housepoet's Famous Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies ™
Ingredients :

* 1 cup butter or margarine (Non-transfat margarine is best, I've also heard that coconut oil has a lot of good fats for lactation, which is really what you're after here)
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons water
* 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal*
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
* 1 cup or more chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, raisins, dried cranberries or nuts.
* 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast* (be generous)

Directions:

Preheat oven at 375 degrees F. Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes. Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended. Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips. Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment or silpat. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.

Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies.

Serves: 6 dozen cookies

Preparation time: 15 minutes

*can be found at any local health food store.
*NOTE* IT MUST BE BREWERS YEAST, NO SUBSTITUTIONS.

I make these with butterscotch chips, and they're amazingly yummy, but I've tried all the variations listed above and they're all good. I'm planning on making 3-4 batches in the next few weeks, dropping them on to cookie sheets and then freezing the unbaked cookies. You can pop however many you want out and bake them after the baby comes and have fresh, hot, yummy cookies, which is awesome with awesome-sauce and a cherry on top.

Spending all of my money and time on this wild, wild life.

I have a lactation recipe too....

It ain't cookies, but ya know...

Oatmeal Banana Nut Bread (from Mother Food)

1/2 shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 Cup bananas (about 3 dark ripe ones)
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup oatmeal (you can use up to 1 cup)
3/4 cups chopped pecans
1 tsp butter or vanilla flavoring

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs 1 at a time mixing thoroughly after each addition. Add bananas and mix well. Add flour, soda, and salt and mix well. Add oatmeal to creamed mixture.

Stir in nuts and flavoring. Pour into greased 9x5 loaf pan and bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes until bread tests done. (knife inserted in center comes out clean)

She suggests eating 2-3 thick slices a day.

now... if my supply is fine, or perhaps even a bit generous, it sure couldn't *hurt* to eat these, right?

Of course not... at least in any way other than generating some extra laundry. They always make me leak when I eat too many.

oooh, now Ineed to convince dh that they are "energy cookies" or "muscle-building" cookies, so that he'll make them for me!

The banana bread looks yummylicious, too!

Tell me though...if I already tend to be on the yeasty side, could the brewer's yeast exacerbate the problem? I'm reeeeeeally working hard to avoid YI/thrush this time!

Oh god, these sound so good but they're probably the last thing I need. I've been spraying like a leaky fire hydrant. I look like a statue from an Italian renaissance fountain, with water shooting out the nipples. I keep on spraying Cyrus in the face with milk.

Well if the brewer's yeast doesn't make the YI worse, the flour and sugar in them probably would anyway! It sucks dealing with yeast!!
