I just realized Riley has a fever...about 99 under his arm. We've been up and fussy since 3 a.m.

Is this pediatrician worthy? Ds is running a temp too and we have a family cold.

I am going to call...I talked to dh while I was posting and he wants me to.

I would call too with a fever in a baby under 4 months. I hope all is fine - I'm sure it will be.

I talked with my midwife (she's a CNM) and she said that as long as the underarm reading stays under 99.5 (currently I'm getting 98.1, I added a degree to come up with the 99 in my first post) and he continues to eat well and behave normally that we are okay.

Told me to drink, rest, and nurse alot. I think we'll be okay. I was freaking out b/c a temp in a newborn warrants a full workup and IV abx...I want to avoid that unless it's absolutely necessary.

Thanks everyone.

My doc says fine under 100, and the hospital said under 99.5. My babe had a fever in the hospital b/c they were bundling her so dang much. Are you swaddling or overdressing the baby?

I didn't think I was, but his temp came down after I changed his clothes. He is sick...baby, ds, and I have some sort of cold. Ds has had a temp too.

Baby is better, ds is not. Although he has eaten a little and is playing some. Poor kid fell in the kitchen and busted his lip a bit ago though. Like he needs that on top of being sick. His temp is still high and he was vomiting some this morning.

I haven't taken the baby to church yet...looks like it will be another week before I get to.

not in your DDC, but my DD got a fever when she was 2 weeks old. our pediatrician said for anything over 100.4 (rectal), go straight to the ER. less than that, careful watching and bring her by the office next day. they also said rectal temps are more accurate then underarm, so if you're not sure about it, take a rectal.

hope it's nothing and babe is better soon!

I was also told that anything under 100 is fine (99 underarm). We got to 98.8 one night that he was fussy. I took off his onesie and we hung out in our undies for a while, and all was fine within an hour or so when I took his temp again. In fact, when I feel he is warm, he's always been in the 98 range.

my baby has had her first cold for about a week and a half. (With no fever) I was concerned because I actually WANT her to have a fever to tell me she is fighting it off!

But I deciedd to not call the pediatrician. Fevers arent bad or dangerous.
