How do you all find the time to post?
My baby boy Alden Edward arrived on March 4th at 4:46 p.m. He was 8 pounds and 20 1/4 inches long. It was a pretty fast labor. It started in the morning but quickly came to a halt as my 3 yo was asking me alot of questions "why are you making that face", "what are you doing". My husband then decided to meditate for an hour while I tried to block out the 3 yo and the pain. Labor came to a halt. I ate breakfast got the 3 yo ready to go to grandma's and then within 45 minutes of her leaving it started back up.
I had already called the midwife to let her know this was probably the day. Around 12:30 p.m. I said we'd better get the bed set up with the sheets and plastic shower curtains. The midwife called us around 15 minutes later and I told her to head over. We tried to call the labor tub people, who were to come and set up the tub, but after paging them 3 times in 2 hours with no response we gave up and filled up our clawfoot, which was helpful but not exactly large enough to move around.
The midwife checked me after awhile and I was only four cm (that was probably around 2 p.m.). I was kinda bummed because I thought I would be there until midnight when I got that info! I got in and out of the tub, labored on the toilet, on the bed, over the ball (wasn't a good idea at the time). Then when I was back in the tub the midwife kept saying I sounded pushy, like I couldn't control the pushing, which I couldn't. She check me again and I was at 9 cm and she said I could go ahead and push! But then she said I'd better move to the bed because there wasn't enough room for a water birth. Two contractions later I found I was able to move to the bed. Then really there were about 5 more contractions on the bed and he was born.
I was really kinda bummed because I was not nearly as high as I was with my daughter, I never had a big adreneline rush and felt alot more, but her labor was 24 hours, I'd take this one with more pain any day!
The baby is doing well. He nurses non-stop, sleeps alot and is really cute. He does that crying thing in the evening like my daughter did, but we've found if we bounce on the ball it calms him down (and it should help the abs!).
