Hello!

I'm officially part of the club. Got two positive results yesterday and meeting with our midwife in two weeks.

Any one else getting ready for their first?

It doesn't even feel real yet.

Thanks everyone for your kind welcome and congratulations!! I hope you are all doing well! I'm feeling really bloated already... oh know!

How are you all feeling?

We told DH's side of the family over the phone last night and we are telling my side this weekend when they just happen to be coming to town for a visit.

Reaction has been very positive so far, which is very nice.

I've always wanted children and I know that DH is going to be an amazing father.

I've already got a million books and ideas, I've been thinking about this for years.

I'm thinking of making a diaper stash out of recycled clothes since I like sewing and I really want to be frugal so we can save for a down payment and house. I already have the Tightwad's Gazette and I'm re-applying some of her teaching now.

DH finishes his PhD in about a year, after that, he gets a job (somewhere!) and I stay home to tend our growing family. Where ever that home may be! How exciting! It will be a big change because I have been working full time in my career for nine years now.... but we think it's important. I'm planning a home-based business for when the child(ren) are older.

We are in a two bedroom apartment that has lots of books, fancy tables and ornaments. I think we will need to get a glass cabinet for the ornaments and figure out some way to protect the books and fancy tables. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of blocking off the dining room that houses the fanciest and the most dangerous table. It's a tree made out of bronze leaves that are hard and pointed.... yeah, I think we will need to close off the room, if we are still there once the babe starts crawling. That's not for over a year though... we'll figure something out. We will sidecar a crib and store the baby's clothes and stuff in our room.

Sorry for babbling. I'm just excited.

Trin.

You're so cute!

Here's an idea for you 1st timers...in my nov 07 ddc they started a thread specifically for 1st time moms, a weekly thread if I remember, and they all got to share the newness of it all together. I loved peeking in on them....they were adorable, and it brought back such sweet memories of my first.

Trin - for me, #1 didn't feel "real" until the third trimester. Until then, it was very surreal. Okay, it was surreal in the third tri too, but at least I started to feel like there really was a person in there!

Congratulations and welcome to the beginning of the journey to becoming a mother! Most wonderful thing in the world. :

Congrats, Trin! It is so fun to imagine how it will all be -- and then parenting is both better and more complicated than any of us could have imagined. I love your sig about looking forward to slinging. I so love slinging that I have had to work HARD not to buy anymore (2 on hand and more hand-me-downs on the way). AND my first dream about the new babe was of walking her/him to sleep in the sling.

Hi Trinitty! I remember you from the NMY thread...I'm so glad to see you here! Congrats!

You too josh's girl!

I just found out today that we are expecting our first. I couldn't be more excited. We were trying for quite some time...and it all feels very unreal.

I like the idea of doing a weekly thread, or just an ongoing chat. This is all so new!

Trin, I've also been working for 9 years now, and am planning on staying home. I might end up leaving work a little 'early'. Our long commute has become harder for me lately, and I can't imagine it being any easier during any stage of pregnancy. I think it'll be good to have the transition time, since I've never taken any real time off.

Hi cking!!! I remember you too!

This is so exciting.

I could hardly wake up this morning. Fatigue hit me like a bus!

It's a good tired though. Glad that the little one is tapping my blood!

So can this be our first-timers thread, then?

I was hanging out in the February DDC til this one opened up, and now I'm straddling both because my EDD is late February and I know first-time moms typically go about a week late.

Christina!!! Have I mentioned how excited I am about your BFP? :

Expecting #2 in May 2013!

Hi Kelly! Thanks!

Oh, this is so exciting. I think I'll be straddling the April DDC too.

Well, this is my first day at work as a pregnant lady. : I can't really complain because I'm not really feeling anything yet, but I'm so distracted.

We haven't told anyone yet (except for MDC of course). I called my acupuncturist today, so he was the first person I told IRL. I'm going to keep going for a few weeks to help prevent early m/c. I sort of told a friend on email : today - she is ttc her second now. She is one of the very few people who even knew we were trying, so I didn't want to hold out on her. I am totally itching to tell people, but we're going to wait at least another 4 weeks. I'm sure that'll all go very quickly after all.

Yes, this can be the first timers thread!

I have to fly for an hour or so next week and be away from my hubby. It will be okay though. Work doesn't know that we're expecting. One of my last work trips. :

this is our 2nd child but my first pregnancy. It's weird being on the other side this time! All the symptoms and experiences of being pregnant are totally new. The parenting stuff, not quite as new and choosing what kind of birth we want, and who we want there is not the same as our first time round. (not to mention that I am currently at home with our 2 yr old so that's different than last time too!)

So, strange as it is to have a child and still be doing this for the first time, maybe it'll be okay to hang out here a bit too.

Another first-timer checking in! I was as excited and babbley (is that a word?) as you, Trinitty, until the "morning sickness" kicked in. Now I'm just :Puke

I can't wait until I find out what my little Smidge is so I can start shopping and getting the nursery ready! I already have a ton of baby clothes for each gender, and I've been already registered at three stores (for my own organization, we probably won't be having a shower) for months now. I've bought a ton of books, a few different types of carriers, and I'm starting to stock up on dipes. I also let myself buy one little odd/end just about every time I go to the store (baby spoons, dipper, toys, wash cloths, etc.) just so I won't go nuts waiting. Oh, and I have a huge collection of books, but mostly the kind I will read to Smidge, not so many baby books.

I'm going to start making the flat diapers pretty soon. It's hard for me to even call it sewing! But, I'd like to get started on the stack.

So how is everyone feeling?

I'm not really feeling much different. A little extra hungry and extra tired, but that's it. Last night I woke up with some weird cramps, but I was so tired at the time I can't remember exactly what they felt like, just that it woke me up.

I saw my chiro on Friday, and she told me that I was over the hump with morning sickness...that if I didn't feel it already, I probably wouldn't have it. I'm only five weeks, so I have a hard time believing that's true.

Any nausea I had was super mild...until yesterday when it was all day long and pretty bad. I was 6w5d yesterday. Today it's back to a background annoyance again. Hopefully you won't get any or maybe just once a week for good measure. The good part about it is that I felt a bit excited to be so sick since it means the baby is growing in there .

Thanks, that's good to know. It's not that I want to sit around waiting for it, but I wasn't sure how early to expect it.

I do notice that if I don't eat very often (every 2 hours or less) I get low blood sugar worse than ever, so I'm trying to make sure I always have snacks with me.

Everyone's different, but my m/s hit with full force around 6 weeks. Around 9 weeks, I started feeling better. Now as long as I eat every 1-2 hours, I'm pretty good. But some women don't get m/s at all...maybe you'll be lucky!

Expecting #2 in May 2013!
