This is the only place on MDC for Deathly Hallows spoilers. We'll open this thread sometime after the book is released on 7/21/07 (details forthcoming) for discussions on the new book. Please wait until the thread is open to discuss Book 7. Please do not start threads elsewhere that divulge details of Book 7. Anybody placing spoilers anywhere other than in this thread will be sent to the Dungeon, with Snape. (Book Snape, not Alan Rickman Snape)

So, hang on tight and get ready...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I never did understand what was so very important about Harry having Lilly's eyes.

the whole character doing magic late in life thing, I guess they were referring to

Aberforth, but I don't recall him ever being described as nonmagical.

One thing that bothered me:

the cloak-supposedly impervious to all magic and could render someone invisible to anyone forever right? Except mad eye Moody could see right through it in book 5. :

I was right about everything I'd predicted =D Anyone else just sob at the mention of

I guess that was the Snape thing?? I didn't think that was well explained either, Dumbledore was trying to tell Snape Harry was more like Lily, but..I dunno

Um..ya I didn't notice that actually happening either and was really puzzeled by it. Did I miss something??

It rendered them invisible to *Death* but was impervious to magic so..I guess the wearer couldn't be attacked by magic, and they couldn't be seen by *Death*??? Not sure.

If you'll recall Dumbledore could see through it in book 1 so more than one person could see through Harry's cloak.

See and my LotR is rusty so now I gotta go pester the husband...

I WILL be back later to stalk this thread - after I got find a copy of book 1. I always planned to read them, I just couldn't get in to all the hype and downright mania over the books. Nothing against them. :

A lot of things are wrapped up but I don't think everything was. :

There is a big hole between the end of the fight and the epilogue and I found that irritating. I could have used another chapter before the epilogue.

Do we still have to keep up with the tags? Not sure, but I did anyway so I wouldn't get sent to the dungeons.

Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
Loved it!!! I started at 1235 last night and finished it at 638 this morning. I just woke up and took a shower. I am definitely going to have the reread the ending but that was by far, one of the most amazing endings ever. Forget the epilogue- Harry freakin' died and came back to life! I completely cried to during different parts fo the book. I think the deaths of Hedwig and Dobby really hit me. Hedwig just came out of nowhere. I was totally not expecting her to die- most of the other deaths, at least I had a clue that it might be coming. And Snape- omg! I cried during the entire Pensieve scene with all of his memories of Lily and how he spoke of always loving her to Dumbledore.

It was just amazing. Wow.

I was just kind of doing it higher up on first page in case people wondered in on accident

We probably don't need to continue much more.

I cried during a lot of the book but I am a cryer, anything can set me off. But

I BAWLED when Dobby died, I am not THAT fond of Dobby but it really set me off. I guess it was just the straw ya know?? Several people die before Dobby and that just made it worse.

You know I hardly have time to post over the summer but I had to come and talk with you annettemarie. You were the first person I thought of when I finished the book at 6:30 a.m but I was just beat and had to get some sleep because we are leaving for Chicago in a bit.

Is it absolutely ridiculous that I bawled like a baby when Dobby died? I was fairly right on with my theories. I knew Harry was a horacrux, I also knew that whole Snape loved Lily thing because of a very wise ten-year-old friend. The stuff about Dumbledore was of new to me, of course.

I was happily surprised that Harry lived on to win the day, after Voldemort's attack.

Wow, though talk about a death toll. I guess Moody didn't surprise me much. The biggest surprise wasFred. I don't know why but it just took me by surprise. It was terribly sad but who else just loved it that Molly went all mother bear and started fighting like that. She might be the last person I expected to take out anyone.

I was devastated when Lupin and Tonks died leaving the little baby alone just like Harry. I was actually surprised that Harry survived the attack to be a proper godfather to him.

The happy ending epilogue was cute. I just can't believe it is over. I am still a bit stunned.

I completely forgot about mentioning this even though I told myself last night/this morning to mention it. Molly totally rocked my world when she took out Bellatrix. It was nice to see her go from worried about everyone dying to kicking some ass. She really showed what a formidable witch she is- something that I think was hinted at in the past books but never discussed.

Lupin and Tonks death- even though I expected it- the fact that they had a baby.....I cried. Sobbed.

Places where I sobbed:

When Dobby died. That really got me.

When Neville killed the basilisk. He's just so brave and I love that he did something really, really important.

"'Albus Severus,' said Harry quietly...'you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew.'"

Tears streaming down my face. I know it was kinda cheesy, but all of my emotion for Snape had been building since the pensieve scene and it all poured out right there.

I know there was another place, but I can't remember it now.

For all the questions left unanswered and the inconsistencies, not to mention the cheesy ending, I LOVED this book. It was exactly what I needed in an end to the Harry Potter series.

Oh, and I LOVED that the Snape/Lily thing was more than just a sad, stalkerish teenage obsession. I love that they were best friends and knew each other from before Hogwarts. The history makes it so much more heartbreaking.

Oh sheesh, I am such a goof I cry at even a character getting a papercut in a book.

Huge spoilers towards end
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
I think I cried a little in several parts. But I BAWLED when Dobby died, just BAWLED.

I also BAWLED during the Snape part, but I love Snape, he is whole reason I read books in first place.

I did find it a little funny that Dumbledore was all "Ok so you gotta kill me 'K" and Snape is just "K" he didn't even balk. That was *exactly* what I thought was going to happen...but I expected him to balk a little bit.

I BAWLED when Harry used the Ring, er..and when Hedgwig died, and when Lupin and Tonks died..and in some other parts.

I was not in the Snape camp for the longest time but when my friend's ten-year-old laid out the Lily's eyes thing to me, it made too much sense to ignore.

That kid will probably teach college courses on these books someday.
