I am due in Nov and am in the market for a new infant car seat. The first time I purchased one, 8 years ago, I did no research and I HATED it. This time I want to get one that is really safe and also user friendly (my last one had straps that were impossible to adjust). User friendliness is easy, I can just go to the store and check it out, but is there a link somewhere of the safest infant car seats?? If not can someone give we a list of 3-5 that are really safe that I can check out??
They are all safe :-) However, as you have noted, there are some that have a lot more ease of use and longevity features than others.
Things I look for in an infant seat: really short bottom straps so that even small newborns fit well, a front adjust system, a tall shell so that it's not outgrown in six months, a carrying handle that can be left in the upright position in the car, and ease of install in most vehicles.
Some seats that meet these benchmarks
1. Graco Snugride 30
2. Graco Snugride 35
(very important, not the regular Graco Snugride (22))
3. Chicco Keyfit 30
4. Safety First OnBoard 35 (Air)
5. Combi Shuttle 33
There is no legitimate evaluation of 'safety'. All seats meet the same standards when used correctly.
