DS is approaching 40 lbs and 40 inches, he is 38 months. I read that the weight limit on the Scenera is 40 lbs, plus I think he is getting close to being too tall as well, so I need to find a replacement seat. This is a 2nd carseat in DH’s car (2012 Ford Explorer which is roomy), so I loved the safety and price of the Scenera for the 2nd car.  Our primary seats are Britax Boulevards for both DS and DD (14 months RF).

Baby #3 is due in December so I need to also consider fitting the infant seat (Snugride 30) in with the other 2 seats. I don’t think this should be a problem since it’s a roomy SUV, but I learn something new every time I visit this forum!

Any recommendations – safe and economical, I just can’t spring for another Boulevard right now.

Thanks.

I would grab an Evenflo Secure Kid 300 or 400.   It's built on the same frame as the Maestro so relatively narrow for a combination seat, but has a higher weight limit which is good for a kid who's all ready 40 lbs at barely 3 years old.

Incidentally, very few children fit into the Scenera by height at 40".  If his shoulders are over the top slots, he's outgrown it even if he's not yet 40 lbs.

Thanks for the info.

On the Evenflo SF 400 - the specs say that the internal harness goes up to 43" and he is 38"ish now...I really don't want something that he'll outgrow again in a year (if he keeps growing so quickly)...i'd like something that will last a little longer, but maybe such a seat doesn't exist? What would be next for us? Thanks so much. I find car seats difficult to navigate!

Also, I don't think his shoulders are yet over the top slots in the Scenara, but just at them. i need to check though since i was basing on his head/neck to the top of the seat as I thought i had read in the manual...thanks.

I believe the harness height on the evenflo is 18".  On your scenera it's most likely 15 or 15.5".  If your LO hasn't outgrown the scenera, they have around 3" of growth in the evenflo.   On average a child grows 1" in torso height a year, so you're looking at at least 2 years, maybe 3, and then you can pass the seat down to a sibling and buy a dedicated booster.

Happily married to my dh, mama to ds1 (01/2005), ds2 (07/2007)  and dd (07/2009).

Yup, for a child who is just outgrowing the Scenera by height, you likely have another three years harnessed in the Secure Kid.

im getting DD a   http://clekinc.com/foonf/  when she outgrows her scenera 40fr. im hoping in a year when i buy one the price goes down a bit.  it's not on the market yet and will cost $450 BUT it rf to 45 lbs and 46 inches and has an exp date of 9 years which means when DD outgrows it new baby will be able to use it too.

When DS2 outgrew his complete air (he RF in it until 6.5 years) i got him the nautilus
