Ski helmet for biking?

My soon to be four year old was given a bunch of winter gear, including a boeri ski helmet that he is insisting on wearing while riding his balance bike. Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't let him?

Does it cover his ears and impact his hearing?

If it fits properly, it probably covers more vulnerable parts of the head than most bike helmets (which are really hard to get to fit properly....most ride up exposing the forehead). Since ski helmets are designed to handle high speed impacts, I suspect they would be as safe as a bike helmet....although the hard shell is a bit less forgiving and maybe designed more for hard snow, than for pavement?

But still better than no helmet :-)
