My understanding is that *Britax* seats that are unoccupied in a crash may not need to be replaced. I think all others do. Contact the manufacturer to be certain.
Yes, contact the manufacturer and explain what type of accident, etc... If they say yes, and insurance balks at the cost, ask them to issue a written statement to you authorizing that those seats are safe for further accidents.
