So for now, I'll just say that my baby boy was born at home in the water at 1:31pm yesterday at 38 weeks + 4 days. He's 3500 grams and 49 cm.
Oh, and I'm tandem nursing him and his sister. So far, so good. It's going vastly better than it did with DD. With her, I had virgin nipples and 7 weeks of excruciating pain, despite an at least decent latch. Now my nipples are like hockey pucks and he's doing great with them. Milk is already in just 24-30 hours later and I haven't had any nipple pain. I have nursed them simultaneously one time, and that was fine. I'm not feeling aversion to DD nursing, which I'm really pleased about. My only hesitation with her is that she isn't being terribly careful with my belly, so I always feel on guard.
I'll try to write it all out tomorrow. In this country, you get a home nurse for most of the day every day for about a week after giving birth. Mine is quite strict about me getting rest, and I suspect that she won't be happy if I try to bring my laptop up to bed. But I will try because I still haven't even told my friends yet that he was born.
Sarah, mother to Eloïse (5/2005), Lucas (3/2008) and Ilias (7/2011), and due with #4 (March 1, 2014)
Also, non-metric folks: baby was a bit over 7 lbs, 11 oz, and 19.3 inches long!
I am thrilled to hear you have a home nurse to help you and to allow you to relax and love and bond with this new member of your family! How wonderful!
When you have a chance to write your birth story, let us know how it was with your 'lack of planning'/willingness to wing it about childcare during labor.
How wonderful about the in-home care, it is killing me that I am not coming back for a birth there, I was really looking forward to it! When I read about SadieJane's ironed napkins, I remembered what a great service that is!
Here in England the midwives come and the MD will come for the 1st pedi check of the baby, but no one cleans for you and makes you rest (sigh).
Enjoy every minute of your babymoon!
