I am so sad. Im a teacher and have been working at my current school for 2 years. I switched schools after taking a one year maternity leave with DD. Today I met with my superintendent to discuss my leave plans. I had planned to take an entire year off again. Well they denied my request and told me I have to return by next December. Apparently according to our new contract I have to be working there for 4 years before I can request unpaid leave. I just don't know what I am going to do. I make so much money there but I can't imagine going back before my babe is a year old.

That sucks. Can you just not go back and reapply after? Or go to a different school?

Are you working at a private school? If not, I would think the city union would get behind you. After all, that's not an unreasonable request, especially since they'd have more than enough time to find a sub for that length of time. I'm sorry... (Curious, what school do you work at? I used to be a NYC school teacher too.)

Mama to Aeden, : my little NICU grad and Conner and Liam () my precious twins. is due mid April!

I work in Westchester so the school is great. I don't have much of an option because it is really up to them to grant an unpaid leave. I could quit and reapply giving up my tenure or find another school where I would never make as much. I just hoping a miracle happens.
