Linnea Jeannette was born at 8:35 on Sunday morning May 25th!!!!
She is beautiful, healthy, and pretty much perfect in every way!!!
It was crazy how it happened... Knowing that I have Group B strep, I called the midwife on Saturday evening around 10:00 because I suspected that I might be leaking fluid. She said that I should come meet her at the hospital so that she could check it out. "It's probably nothing, and I'll just send you home," she said. Famous last words!!!!
At the hospital she took a sample and came back to report that indeed, it WAS amniotic fluid and so my bag must be breaking! She told me that I had to stay at the hospital so that I could get the strep antibiotics. "You'll probably go into labor naturally sometime tomorrow during the day, so stay here at the hospital, get a good nights sleep and I'll see you in the morning." MORE FAMOUS LAST WORDS!!!!
Well, around 2:30 I started having cramps and several bowel movements in a row. DP was asleep so I started walking the halls of the very empty hospital and having light contractions about 4-5 minutes apart. Within an hour they were 2-3 minutes apart. I woke up DP who walked with me for a few minutes and then helped me work through some ctx in the room. So far pretty normal. However by 3:30am the contractions were REALLY close together. I started to cry hysterically because there were no breaks! no recovery time! This was not what I had learned about labor!!! The (rather unhelpful) nurse told me that I just needed to relax and "quit working myself up" (great, lady) so that I didn't get too tired out. Around 6:00 she checked me and I was effacing but not dialating. Still, on account of my extremely worked-up state, she called the midwife who arrived around 6:30.
Well the rest of the story is just about the stormiest, most insanely crazy and painful account of going from 0-10 centimeters in two hours that you can imagine. The ctx were completely unrelenting and every single one was more painful, intense and long than the last. It was nuts. There was nothing anyone could say or do to help me... I just wailed and moaned in the birthtub. Eventually the MW got me out so she could check me, at which point I was fully dialated (at 8AM!) and throwing up everywhere, etc. It took me a little while to figure out how to push but once i did, she was born in three fast good pushes!!!!
It was 8:35 am and slimey warm baby girl was in my arms!!!
The hours and days since have been totally blissed out and wonderful... The hospital staff was AWESOME and totally helpful, and the baby is just about the most amazing creature I have ever met.
I can't wait for everyone else to have their babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
