We had our precious little girl on May 28 at 2:33 am. Her name is Freya Lynn. She weighed 6 pounds 12 oz and was 19 inches long. She is absolutely perfect.

After laboring all day Tuesday and making some relaly good progress, my labor just all of a sudden stopped Tuesday evening. My contractions just stopped and everything. My water had been broken since 5 am. We decided that we were just going to rest and wait for labor to start back up. The midwife checked the heart tones and noticed that they were further up in my abdomen than they had been. With further investigation we discovered that the little belly bean had pulled her head out of my pelvis and lodged her self in a diagnal position. We transfered to Tacoma General in our vehicles (my wonderful midwife came with us) and got there about 11:30pm. The confirmed the baby's position by ultrasound (she was actually transverse by the time we got to the hospital). So a c-section was decided on. I had a total different experience this time than with Liam and I actually see it as a beautiful and fairly gentle birth. Michael stayed with me the whole time. He announced to me that she was a girl and they handed her to him as soon as they checked her out. I got to nuzzle and kiss on her while they stitched me up. As soon as I got in the recovery room I got to breastfeed her... so only 30 minutes after she was born! She pretty much stayed latched on to me for the whole first day. She never left my sight and I got to keep her with me in my bed.

We came home this morning only a little more than 48 hours after the c-section. I am feeling great for just having major surgery. Freya is so wonderful! She is a champion breastfeeder. My milk started coming in this morning already.

I didn't have the homebirth that I wanted, but I had a beautiful birth and am happy with it!

I will post pictures when I get a chance to download them.

Tara - nurse and wife to a nurse, mama to four, Izak (7/28/99), Liam (9/25/06), Freya (5/28/08) and Luna (5/19/10)

Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear you're fairly happy with how the birth went, even though you were going for an HBAC. Obviously this is one of those times you can't help it! I'm so glad things went well considering and that you're both doing so well so fast. Take care, can't wait to see pictures!

Aubree, wife to a wonderful DH, mom to Colin 12/05, Hudson 6/08, and Gavin, 1/12/11.

I was just wondering this morning if babies ever change their mind about heading out and backed back up. It sounds like she needed a different kind of entry into the world. Congratulations! I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Congratulations! and awesome that you got to nurse her after only 30 minutes. I had a vaginal delivery with ds and still had to wait almost an hour before I was able to nurse him.

Congratulations on your new little girl! (So fun after two, sweet boys...I know!) Sorry to hear you had some complications that prevented your HBAC, but it sounds like everything went very well and you have a little nursing champ already. Awesome!

What a little turkey for switching positions at the very last minute... sounds like she'll have quite the personality.
And that's fabulous that your c-section went so well, it's always nice hearing the not-so-horrific ones.

Yay! I don't know your other story, but isn't it amazing how great a csection can be if you go in on your own decision and own terms?

And nice name! My DH has been pushing for Inanna all along, but I think those are just too big of shoes to fill! Enjoy your little Goddess.

Congratulations mama! Sounds like a wonderful birth. My baby girl just went breech yesterday (not sure where she is now) right in front of our eyes pretty much so we might be switching gears like you had to do really soon and your story helps me remember that I can have a beautiful birth no matter what.
