We had our precious little girl on May 28 at 2:33 am. Her name is Freya Lynn. She weighed 6 pounds 12 oz and was 19 inches long. She is absolutely perfect.
After laboring all day Tuesday and making some relaly good progress, my labor just all of a sudden stopped Tuesday evening. My contractions just stopped and everything. My water had been broken since 5 am. We decided that we were just going to rest and wait for labor to start back up. The midwife checked the heart tones and noticed that they were further up in my abdomen than they had been. With further investigation we discovered that the little belly bean had pulled her head out of my pelvis and lodged her self in a diagnal position. We transfered to Tacoma General in our vehicles (my wonderful midwife came with us) and got there about 11:30pm. The confirmed the baby's position by ultrasound (she was actually transverse by the time we got to the hospital). So a c-section was decided on. I had a total different experience this time than with Liam and I actually see it as a beautiful and fairly gentle birth. Michael stayed with me the whole time. He announced to me that she was a girl and they handed her to him as soon as they checked her out. I got to nuzzle and kiss on her while they stitched me up. As soon as I got in the recovery room I got to breastfeed her... so only 30 minutes after she was born! She pretty much stayed latched on to me for the whole first day. She never left my sight and I got to keep her with me in my bed.
We came home this morning only a little more than 48 hours after the c-section. I am feeling great for just having major surgery. Freya is so wonderful! She is a champion breastfeeder. My milk started coming in this morning already.
I didn't have the homebirth that I wanted, but I had a beautiful birth and am happy with it!
I will post pictures when I get a chance to download them.
