I did one in my last DDC and it was fun, BUT...many people didn't receive their beads and instead got empty envelopes with holes in them! So make sure if we do it that everyone puts their beads into a plastic baggie inside the envelope. Paper envelopes tear open when run through the postal machines with beads in them. :

But I'm in! I'd like to wait until I'm further along just in case, preferably January after the holidays?

i did this with my last dd in 06 and was great. i am definitly in

Junebugsmom- birth beads are beads are beads that you can focus on during birth or wear when nursing. everyone buys or makes one for each person and then you recieve in the mail a strand of different beads from all the mommies. I still have mine in my dd's memory box. I wore mine during her birth and it reminded me of the support and other mommies that are going through the same thing

Our DDC had everyone send a few beads to each mama and we put them together ourselves, along with a sentiment/quote to inspire the mama-to-be during labor.
But I like the idea of sending them all to one organizer with postage and then the organizer sends them all out together.

If we do 1 central person to mail them to( In a baggie so that the envelop will not rip when it goes through the mail sorting machine) then she sends them out we will need to have every one include a check for postage and a self addressed envelope so that your complete set of beads( in a baggie so you can assemble how you like) can be sent out to you ( just make the check for the same amount as it costs to send the beads you are sending that way if some are heaver and some lighter it evens out). I have no problem being that person.

So between now and February lets see how many mommas we can get to do it. Lets also make sure everyone mails out beads no later than May 1st so if someone goes into labor early they will have there necklace/braclit made.

Cool! I'll start keeping my eyes open for beautiful larger-holed beads that will be easy to string.

Yep, after the ddc bead fiasco that vegan mentioned with the holes in envelopes, I'll better know how to package them this time!!! My big girl still plays with the beads I got, she calls them her "money".

8 mammas so far!!! by February we should have enough that we will be able to make really awesome necklaces.
Hey if everyone can include a description of there bead and why they chose it that would be great( just a short blurp) so I can fit them all on one page to send out with the complete set of beads. That way when we are stringing them we will have a real sense of what they all mean/ stand for.

I'd love to do this as well!

Any general specifics on the beads? A size range or anything? This is new for me.

Anything that would be easy to string by hand, not to big they will probably be strung on wire or upholstery thread. They can be spacers or dangly, shapes, medallions, wood, Glass stone,Shell, metal. Anything that makes you think of a successful birth, strength, love, power.

For example ,The last blessing way I did the woman's sister gave her a bead that looked like a open flower to symbolize her womb opening like a flower.

I think just avoid the tiny seed beads with the itty bitty holes.

How special, I would love to be a part of this. How neat to have beads from all kinds of mamas that are in the *same* place as I am.
