My first appointment is not scheduled until the 17th when I will be exactly 8 weeks. But I am so anxious. I am no longer such a nervous wiper (sorry if that's TMI) but I am nervous just the same because of my loss in November. What is the earliest I COULD go in and see a heartbeat? I am 100% sure of my dates (LMP and ovulation).

Ryansma, I saw a heartbeat at exactly 7w, and I think it definitely should be visible by then.

Thanks, that's what I thought but the nurse said they usually schedule between 8 - 10 weeks. I don't think she understood why I wanted earlier confirmation. Anyone else?

I think heartbeat begins in 6th week, but is usually hard to find. It may be better to wait so you don't have to deal with not being able to hunt it down. Be lame if you ended up freaked and the baby was fine.

I know it's hard though. I've been pregnant now a full 2x longer than last time - still a nervous wiper myself. Hang in there mama. We're doing this together.

Does the nervous wiping ever go away? I'm beginning to think it'll last well beyond having the baby, I've gotten so used to it.

My dumb insurance only pays for one scan total, so I was planning on only getting one at 20 weeks, but my awesome doc did one last night at 9 weeks off the record. It was very reassuring to hear (and see) that little heart pounding away! Maybe if you tried talking to the nurse again they'd get you in a little earlier?

With the twins we saw heartbeats at 6 weeks. This time I had an u/s to rule out an ectopic pregnancy at 4.5 weeks and saw just the sac. I go back in two weeks (at which point I'll be close to 9 weeks) for a follow-up u/s.

Decluttering SAHM of three. Going for 2011 items in 2011.

Not being able to see the heartbeat if we did get an earlier scan would most definately FREAK me out (even if everything turned out ok) so that is the ONLY reason I am even trying to be patient.

I definately felt better once I got past the point where I lost the last pregnancy but it's still a challenge to stay and calm and try to be peaceful and reassured. My friend who is 32 weeks said she is a nervous wiper now b/c she is waiting to see bloddy show or mucous. So I guess you get something like a 15 week reprieve?

I think you could see one by then. I, personally, do not feel comfortable with first trimester ultrasounds. I fear they may be dangerous and avoid them if I can.

Mom of a 7 yr old, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old. Wow. How did that happen?

I had my first one at 6 wks 1 day this pg and saw the heartbeat. I think you'll be a nice look at 8 wks.

I've had early scans (at 5 wks) and it is really hard to see nothing there yet. Hang in there!

I'm Deborah, mama to Aidan, 11/02, Sean, 9/04 (my T21 SuperBoy), and Eleanor, 8/08.

I just had one between weeks 6 and 7 and we saw the heartbeat. I was under the care of an RE and due to previous miscarriages I definitely wanted that early ultrasound.

I know how hard it is to be nervous. I don't think I will relax until August comes and the baby is here.

We saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks.

I can relate to all the worries though. It's tough and I just try to take it day by day. Every day that goes well means my baby is growing stronger and bigger and I just try to focus on that. Best wishes to all of us worriers out there!

Maybe I will call and see if they can get me in next week....

What is an RE?

Reproductive Endocrinologist (hope I spelled that right). Basically a fertility specialist, mine also takes care of women who have multiple miscarriages. He's done a great job at monitoring my pregnancy very closely. He said probably way overkill but he likes it that way (and I do, too!)

With DS we saw a h/b on the u/s at 6w 2d. With this one, we saw it at 7w 3d. I think they might be wanting to wait until week 8 because I know some peple didn't see a h/b at their 6week appointment.

We saw our babies heart beat by ultrasound at 5w5d. Dates are all correct and I was indeed 5w5d, not magically farther along or something! And my OB had no trouble finding it. Hope this helps and makes you feel a little better!

I had to laugh at "nervous wiper" as in:
"Hello, my name is Megan and I'm a nervous wiper."
Man, that's one joke I wish I didn't get.
Good luck with your little one, ryansma. I hope you see or hear that HB soon.

I had a scan at 6w3d due to severe cramping and we were able to *see* the heartbeat (couldn't hear it yet) flickering away.

At my last appt this past week at 9w2d we actually got it on the doppler too (I was surprised).

I think you'll be good

Thanks everyone. I seriously considered calling and trying to get in earlier but decided I could wait. It's going to be tough but it will be worth it to be able to see a little more. We had our first scan at 9w6d with ds so I am curious to see what the difference will be. I think getting past the point of my m/c helped me settle a little and my nervous wiping has even improved a little
But, like you Megan, I wish I didn't get that joke either. Here is to a H&H 9 months

I just got back from having my first U/S. I thought i was at the end of my 6th, begining of my 7th week. The u/s only showed a sac, which now my dr. thinks that I might be only 5 or early 6 weeks. I go back in two weeks to make sure all is well. Im so scared that my baby is not growing. Please, any soothing calming wisdom that can calm my nerves

I won't aquiesce to an US until much later and only to see where the placenta is lying. I think there is a risk associated in early pg I am not willing to take.
