With my previous 2 I started at like 34 or 35 weeks I think. I only inserted them, I never took it orally. We cannot use EPO this time though because there is controversy in using it if you have had a previous C-section from what I have heard.

alicia iam going for a vbac and my friend who has had a hbac said her midwife told her to start taking it at 37 weeks and then with her sec baby she is going to start taking it too

but i guess that is confusing cause i think EPO would help prevent a c section

My doula suggested starting them after 38 weeks or so (3 orally, 3 vaginally)--I just had an US that said the baby is greater than 90th percentile for size (already ~7.1lbs), so she suggested it as a natural induction method.

But my question is, where do you get it? I was at Whole Foods tonight and meant to look, but forgot.

I take them on and off orally during the third trimester. I don't remember everyday

I never did do them vaginally.

Mom of a 7 yr old, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old. Wow. How did that happen?

My mw said I can take it orally any time, and vaginally by 36-37 wks (but I'm not vbac-ing).

There was some research that states that it can cause a uterine scar to soften, which confuses me because it really will not be all that close to the scar...so in turn it increases the risk of rupture...I do not know for sure...I would do some additional research maybe.

i might start taking it at 37 weeks. last time i went into labor at 35 weeks according to the EDD given by my OB, but after i had ds he turned out to be 37 weeks developmentally. my midwife suggested that i just wait until 37 weeks if i plan on taking it.

hyz, i dunno if you know, but US are notoriously inaccurate at determining the weight of the baby. i've known a lot of people who were told they were going to have a large baby who went on to have only 7 lb babies.

mommytomahmoud, thanks for the 'where to buy' info. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it next time I'm out.

Thanks, and I do know that--I'm not worried, but I'm also not averse to encouraging things along to hopefully happen around my EDD in any event. If my OB starts talking induction because of the US results (she's good, so I really don't think she will, but I haven't gotten to talk to her since we got those results), then I'll be even happier to have some natural methods to try.

did you see results? what was your due date and how early or late you gave birth? I have never taken epo, I've heard about it but never tried it.

anyone really experienced real results with epo?

I was 5 days "late" with E, but had a great labour. Very long early labour, but active labour was pretty quick-about 5 hours start to finish. I think it could have gone quicker if I'd trusted my body a little more.
Who knows<about it working>? I'll probably do it again, as well as start drinking some RRL tea in the next couple of weeks, but I kind of think that the baby's going to come when the baby's ready, no matter what I do, you know?

I took EPO with my son. I started at 37 weeks and did 2 orally and 2 vaginally at night. At 38w5d I had a gross rupture of my water (I mean it wasn't a trickle down my leg, it was a pool of amniotic fluid on the floor---3 full towels worth). Labor started about 7.5 hours later, baby was born 8.5 hours after that.

Another friend started the EPO when I went into labor (we had the same due date) and her water broke in the same way, with a similarly fast first labor 9 days after she started taking it.

I've heard that EPO (especially when used vaginally) will increase your chance of having a "gross rupture" of the water, so maybe it's true. Anecdotally it sure seems so!

And I will start using it again, probably a bit after 36 weeks so I can be sure I get my homebirth!

Happy SAHM Mom and CBE to three jumpers.gifboys:  DS1 (11/06), DS2 (7/08), DS3 (11/10) and D?4 (12/12)!

Yeah, like my girlfriend who had to have an "emergency c-section" because the baby was "8 lbs" at 35 weeks...according to the US..and then they took the baby and he was 5.5 and in the ICU....:
