I think from what I remember it can be risky for GBS women.
It might also start labour is a 37 week baby something you are comfortable with? I am not sure what the differences are between a 37 and 40 week infant...but I am sure there are some...

other things I found:
Quote:
It almost certainly increases the risk of chorioamnionitis and premature rupture of membranes. Its use is controversial in the obstetrical literature, and in my opinion, for what that's worth, it is dangerous and unnecessary. Labor starts when it is time, leave well enough alone. Might dislodge a low placenta...Could get a false start going -- perhaps dislodge plug, start a few contractions and everything would quit; resulting in disappointed and tired mom
I don't know what chorioamnionitis is...?

My neighobour got stripped at 37 weeks gave birth the next day.
I told my mw that and begged for my own she said it was unethical to do it unless you were on your due date or passed..there goes my chances...

8 might be enough

Hmmm, having had it done at 37.5 wks last time I went immediately into labor. In my situation I feel like I pushed things unreasonably. If you're GBS+ it's risky too I believe. Biggest risk is breaking your water then the clock starts ticking.

I also had membranes stripped 3x with the first and had an induction at 41+1 so just b/c it didn't work last time really means nothing for a different pregnancy

good plan, Amanda. Its hard being at the end of the month with all these August babies, but hey, maybe one of us will be the "last but not least" mama! silver lining.

I had my membranes stripped today at around 2pm...no contractions or anything yet. I'm hoping it will put me into labor but I doubt it.

I didn't have it done with DS since I was GBS+. I tested negative with DD and I'm almost 4cm dilated so I didn't see anything wrong with it. PLUS - to add some pressure - I have a repeat C/S appointment on Monday and would like to go into labor before that.

I think it'll be better to wait for baby to be ready... if the baby is not ready, you'll get no contractions so I guess the risk (whatever risk) is not worth it...

That is what happened with my second son. MW stripped my membranes at 37 weeks (and I was gbs+ as well as had pre-e) and told me to do a lot of walking. I did, and my water broke, but I didn't have any contractions for 12 hours. So, they loaded me with pitocin.

Generally speaking I thought stripping regardless of GBS status can introduce infection and doc may accidentally break waters (<--not too sure on the breaking of the waters though)

Are you sure of your conception date? The darn u/s is saying my "due date" is 8/11 but I charted when TTC with this one and I'm closer to Aug 14/15. In the whole scheme of things, the discrepancy isn't too big but towards the end, it can make a difference in helping convince my OB to keep away from me at least another few days, you know?

I'm having mine stripped Monday and I'm a little nervous about it. Mainly nervous about it not working, but I'm having a VBAC and my only chance at one is to deliver by 38 weeks. I'm also having some other medical issues that warrant baby coming early. If I didn't have any medical reasons I would not have it done.

to be fair my first doc told me to my face that there are no risks to pitocin induction. take what they say with a grain of salt. then do some googling...

Like I said, I had my membranes stripped yesterday (I'm 39+3 today) and the baby is still inside me. I didn't have any contractions or anything.

If a doctor is pushing induction and suggests stripping membranes as an alternative, keep your pants on. Too much risk of them "accidentally" breaking your waters and putting you on a time table.
