I started this week and I'm already regretting not doing it sooner or putting it off until after baby. I just feel so *tired* even without doing school. It makes me wish I had a workbook based curriculum for this year . My hope is to get into a routine and do school for 4 days/week for a month, which will bring us to 9-15 and me to about 39 weeks pregnant. Then we can decide from there whether to continue until labor day or stop and take about a month off.

What are you planning to do?

I was planning on just waiting for an official start when my DD turns 6, which would give us plenty of time to adjust to the new baby. (I think that is when she'd officially start a public school anyway, since she's beyond their cutoff date. ) I think that by having a baby around the house, there will be plenty for her to help do and learn for a while.

But, that is one of the beautiful things about homeschooling, you can give yourself a break anytime you and your family need it!

<sigh> I've been perfectly happy to not think about it at all...darnit, Charmie...

I had planned to have far more planning done, but that hasn't happened. We will be part of a homeschool co-op once a week, and my dd is only 5 (6 in Nov) so we're working on Kindergarten - with delayed academics, so I think I'm ok with really taking it easy until the new year.

We started last Monday, with the plan of having a routine down by the time the baby gets here.

But my kids are older so they are pretty self-directed in their studies. They pretty much do their work and ask me if they have questions. And then we discuss topics like reading and history during mealtimes.

I figure we will end up taking some time off with the less self-directed subjects like history and literature, but we will see how it goes when the baby gets here. If we take a break we will just work longer in the spring to get our curriculum done.

Tessa, mama to M (93) B(94) T (05) G (08) and waiting for the arrival of ? on 10/23

My ds is 4, but we are starting K sometime this fall. He found some of the workbooks I had stashed on a shelf and wanted to do them. Low and behold Just with the unschooling fun stuff we do he is almost at a 1st grade level in math, and is advanced in letters also. So we have been doing his workbooks a few times a week, when he wants to. I think we'll probably just do it when he asks when the baby comes, take the pressure off, and not have to think about a routine. he is still way young to be serious, but it totaly helps his bordom when his little sister and brother are sleeping.

Thea, wife to Daniel Homeschooling Momma to 4 beautiful, engergetic children.

Sorry! My kiddos are a little older than most of yours. We've been doing the so laid back we're almost unschoolers thing for a couple of years now, but my kids are acting out and I think it's b/c they're bored. They are just eating up the little bit of school I've managed to do with them this week, which is great, but just makes me feel even more guilty on the days when I can't get anything done. I'm ready for more structure, but I think I chose the absolute worst time to try to get myself to follow a more structured schedule. I'm 34 weeks pregnant, for crying out loud!

Whatever...we've managed three days now. If I can get something in tomorrow, we will have done a whole week of school, sort of. I can do this for a month, right? It'll get easier, I hope??

What kind of structure are you using? That might give us some ideas as to what to suggest.

I'd probably better figure out something myself! I had forgotten that the school year was starting up again so soon... I've been so focused on the baby schedule!

Mama to Munchkin  and Chickadee ...and co-parent to 3 additional bundles of energy!
