Does it drop any? Rise? Get harder or softer?

I know it opens during labor , but I'm wondering if I can catch any signs with cervical checks before active labor begins.

It comes forward and gets softer and generally gets lower. But of course that can all happen weeks in advance or in an hour, so don't take it to mean anything definitive.
