Hi everybody.

I'm not having an ultrasound (unless something pops up & MW feels I need one.)

I was supposed to have an appt. today @ 16 wks, then my next one would be at 20wks (when I was hoping to hear the HB.) My MW called & cancelled & i'm busy next week, so my next appt. won't be untill 18wks, which puts the following one at 22wks.

I was just wondering if any of you had luck hearing a heart beat w/ a fetascope @ 18 weeks. I was really looking forward to it and am a tiny bit dissapointed in waiting untill 22 weeks to hear it.

Thank You.

I've gotten a HB at 18 weeks with a fetoscope. That's the earliest mws usually try to use it b/c its really hard to hear anything before that. I have heard of folks having luck with it earlier~ twins, bigger babe, thinner mama, etc, but those are exceptions. If you're not able to pick anything up at 18 weeks, by 20 weeks you should definately be able to hear it.

I remember someone on here saying that she tried once a week and found the HB at 17 weeks.

I think they got mine around 18 weeks last time, since we didn't use doppler.

Just think, by the time you hit 22 weeks you will almost definitely hear it, right?

I bought one off ebay for $30 or so, but being more unpracticed than a midwife, I didn't not find my daughter's hb with it until closer to 28 weeks. After that it was easier.
