Oh, I couldn't resist. I waited an hour and no one else started it, so here we go on the last full week of September-- gulp!

I had my baby shower yesterday, and was reminded as to why I was dreading it. As much as my job makes me the center of attention for about 4 hours a day, it's rarely bout me personally, so I'm okay with it. My hostess threw a lovely shower, but do I ever hate all eyes on me. It was really odd, too. My MIL and Aunt in law came up for it. It was great to see them, but there were all of my girlfriends, complaining about their mothers in law. Then, I'd invited my former boss (who is my current boss's wife) whom I adore, and whose child-rearing philosophy is more in line with mine than with any of my girlfriends. But that was a bit awkward, as the rest of my girlfriends know her only as my boss's wife, b/c they weren't working there yet when she was at the helm. Evidently I also snubbed one of the "matriarchs" of my workplace by not inviting her, so some people may have boycotted the party b/c of that. I couldn't believe I had to deal with all of this work drama and I haven't even worked with them since the first week of June.

That aside, it was a great party, awkwardness excluded. I had asked to reuse items, b/c I didn't want to get all new things, and of course that didn't work. I got double gifts instead. I have so many clothes that I have to return to my SIL, that the new clothes, which no one can resist buying, are really unnecessary.

I also got a ton of cloth diapers from my former boss, who ended up not using them. So now I need to learn how to work with prefolds. I'm off to do some research.

I wish you all a good week that is productive, but not exhausting, and moves each of us closer to our due dates.

You are quick!

This is exactly why I'll never be able to start these chit chat threads...I will never remember so soon on Sunday morning. Glad you had a good shower- even though the drama does suck sometimes. I know what you mean completely...

Speaking of showers, have any of you gotten a bad gift at your baby shower?

Somebody gave me a girl outfit (I'm having a boy) because she didn't bother to ask what gender I was having and assumed that I would only have girls. (what the heck does that even mean?)

Oh well. It *is* cute and I'll just save it for when I do have a girl Someday hopefully...

I'm gonna see my doc on wednesday, and I'll proably get a check then. I spent all day yesterday at the Air Show, and all night last night working. Lots of crampiness, so maybe my body's getting in line, after all. I'm gonna walk and walk and walk. I'm getting the elastic in my diapers tomorrow, and everything is ready, especially me. Life is beautiful, and unless something goes wrong wednesday I should be happy throughout the week. :
Edit: About the bad gift.... Not so much bad as, well, useless... an angel plaque from one of my distant cousins (who I never see and who my grandma insists on inviting to these things anyway) One of those resin, dollar-store looking things. What am I supposed to do with it?

Life is mostly back to normal in my part of town after Ike. Thank goodness.

I feel like I've been run over by a mack truck...the worry of the storm and the aftermath has pretty much wiped out any reserves I had left.

On the baby front (see my other thread), I am now dealing with almost continual crampiness which = crankiness. I finally got to see my doctor after a couple weeks of IKE induced craziness that precluded regular visits and given the crampiness and pressure I'm feeling she checked me, I was 1 cm and 70% effaced...which is distinctly different from my first pregnancy (Nell would never engage in my pelvis so up til induction I had zero progress).

I'm wondering if the crampiness means anything at all or is jus ta result of a big full term baby in there pushing both up and down.

Happy last full week of September!! Its finally starting to feel like fall around and I'm so excited! Can't wait til we can go pumpkin picking!

Well, I'm 37 weeks today!: Not that I've ever given birth anywhere close to the 37 week mark, its just such an exciting milestone to reach in pregnancy. I keep patting my belly and saying, "anytime now, baby!"

Dh and I are doing my bellycast today. I'm still debating on how I'll finish it. I think I might use the beads from my Mother's Blessing next weekend to decorate it. I had also thought about painting some irises on it, too but I don't want this poor babe to get sick of her name with irises everywhere, LOL!

Who else has done or is planning on doing a bellycast soon?

OMG that is so funny! I'm sorry, but who does that? I mean, if you really want to get a mama clothes but don't know what she's having, get something neutral! I didn't get any *bad* gifts persay, but DH and I are vegan and somebody got us a basket full of all this "Got Milk?" licensed crap, bottles, bibs, etc. I mean, it's just an odd gift, but not a "bad" gift. I'm going to try to return it but they didn't give a gift receipt with it, and I don't think Baby Depot does even store credit w/o one, so we'll see.

From what I understand, as I am also dealing with this constant crampiness, is that it is doing *something* with the cervix and uterus, preparing and toning things for the real deal. Congrats on the dilation and effacement! I know I'm really excited since finding out my body is doing things like that too!

I kind of decided not to do another belly cast. We move fairly often and it's a HUGE pita to worry about it being damaged each time. I had maternity pics taken instead this time.

Today is cleaning day around here. It sucks to spend a Sunday cleaning but it helps out so much the rest of the week so I appreciate it.

Lots of cramping here too. It sucks sometimes but it'll all be over soon.

OMG a girl outfit?! Nice!
I can't say I got a bad gift. I got some duplicates, and some things I just don't need. It's tough trying to return/exchange this stuff, too! Only one gift had a gift receipt, so I have to guess which store... Also stores have pretty strict return policies. I'm thinking I'll freecycle or craigslist some of this stuff.

One gift I'm pretty sure is something someone received as a gift for their own kid and didn't want so they gave it to me. It's a plastic toy for a one year old or older.

Crampy mamas: I have been noticing some cramping too. Not a ton, but some. I guess it's part of it, right?

We did one a few weeks ago, but it came out with some imperfections. DH wants to do a mosaic over it... I dunno. It doesn't look bad, but could be better. I have some pics somewhere that I should post. Oddly enough the breasts turned out fine. I think my bellycaster (dh) paid special attention to that area.

I agree with Changed though that it's kind of a PITA to figure out where to put it and not damage it or anything.

No news here really. I had a nice evening yesterday (girls night). Today DH and I are going to try and see the new Coen Bros movie (love love love the Coen Bros). And we're going to pack the labor bag and hospital bag today.

Have a great week everyone!

I'm glad the party was a success. That's too bad that your GF's had to be so drama-filled.

I'm happy to hear you're recovering from Ike. Hopefully you're able to find some energy soon. I can only imagine how draining it was to go through something like that at the end of a pregnancy!

I'm also noticing an increase in crampiness. It's making me nauseous actually and it's rather annoying. On top of the major BH's I get during cardio workouts, I'm getting pretty frustrated! I want to workout hard and have the energy to do it but the BH's have other ideas. Ugh.

I bought my supplies for belly casting on Thursday! YAY! I'm so excited to do it! Do you use Vaseline so it doesn't stick to your belly or lotion or baby oil, something else? I think we'll do the casting next weekend or maybe the following. I want to make sure I'm about as big as I'll get but not so close to the end that it doesn't get done.

AAM: If my GBS is negative, do I still need to continue the natural "treatment" I've been doing to prevent it? I assumed I would have to keep up with it to ensure it stays negative but it sure is a LOT of supplements to take everday!

Tara, from what I've read about the GBS stuff, definitely keep doing what you're doing. You don't just want to test negative, you want to be and stay negative, and if you're taking probiotics, etc, you should probably keep that up to ensure that negative status. Since I tested negative, I've continued to take the same things I was taking originally.

HTH!

AAM -just had my maternity photography session and it couldn't have gone better! It was so much fun, and the photographer let me see the pictures on her camera when we were all done - they look great! I can't wait to actually see them cleaned up on the computer, in b/w and sepia as well. Plus, she told me today that she's going to be offering the pics on disc if I wanted to have them, but it'll cost $300. I'm thinking it might be worth it. They'd be JPEG, not raw images, but it might be cool to have them so I could make a snapfish book or have them to print out whenever I wanted..WWYD?

I've definitely been noticing more cramping - it started a few weeks ago and I was so paranoid I was having preterm labor! I've also noticed a feeling like the baby was pushing down pretty hard on my cervix. I asked my midwife about it, and she said the baby is "practicing" for labor, when it will actually help push itself out. Pretty amazing.

My husband and I went out for breakfast this morning, and our server was super nice. When she brought out our food she said to me, "Well, don't you look cute!" She asked me when I'm due (I'll be 38 weeks on Wednesday), and said I look fantastic. Yay!

^Don't you just love when someone says something sweet and positive regarding your pregnancy instead of the stupid comments we tend to get?! How nice! Breakfast with DH sounds like a wonderful way to end a weekend.

Thanks for your input Carrie....those were exactly my thoughts. I'll definitely ask my OB/CNM at my next on Friday too.

We're getting out birth tub on Tuesday. I'll be 39w on Thursday. :

It feels so close...it is so close! I've been having a few different changes down yonder that lead me to believe that it could be any day now but I'm sure I'll go to 40...

^Carrie, I saw your post on the Weekly thread from last week and have been thinking about a book to read as well. You might re-post here in case no one reads the other one. A really good non-baby/pg/parenting book I read was "The Time Traveler's Wife. It was great! "The Bachelorette Party" was really good too.

Maryann, the price you're paying for your photos is awesome! I wish I could have found the same deal. The woman I chose charged $250 for the shoot, and is offering me the cd (not with all the photos, but with the ones she fixes up, maybe 30-50 pics) for an additional $300. I think for my neck of the woods it's an awesome deal, it's just so interesting to see the different prices depending on where you are.

Carrie, book wise, I LOVE Jennifer Weiner books. I have read ALL of them, and would recommend them to anyone. Good in Bed is my favorite, if I had to choose just one, but they are all fabulous, funny, and just good chick lit if you're into that sort of thing.

OMG, I just had to post this b/c I read it on the Sept board and then googled it to see if it's true. I had no idea. I've been eating cans of pineapple slices for like a week and a half now, like, a can of pineapple a day, just b/c it's really, really tasty. Now I find out that eating pineapple is a natural induction method?!? It's supposed to ripen your cervix?!?

^Interesting! I LOVE pineapple! Note to self.

I got quite a bit done today. I vacuumed the entire upstairs (about 1000 sqft- 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lg hallway), washed our sheets and all our towels, set up the cradle and cart by my bed, cleaned the master bath, and did some general cleaning in the master bedroom. My house smells good now because of the cleaning supplies and feels even better because everything is SO organized and clean! I hate cleaning but I sure do love the end product! Now if I can only keep it up.

Wow! We should change the name of this thread to the Massive and Mighty Poster's thread!

I'm right in there with all of you who are crampy/nesty/numb hands/running around like a chicken woth no head/craving strange things! Wow, we have a lot going on, don't we?!

Actually I thought I was going to go into labor last week. I kept having an hour or more of pretty steady ctrx each evening at the same time. I talked with an OB/friend on Wednesday night, and he said to make sure the bags are packed, and the carseat is in the car. So that's what we did. Strangely enough, after I accomplished a few things around the house, I could calm down, and I haven't had any patterns of ctrx for days. Now I've got those funny twinges that almost tickle, and sometimes sharp sensations that I know mean my cervix is dialating. I think I may go early after all. I'm 37 weeks tomorrow, and I have an appt on Tuesday, so we'll see.

I've gotten a lot of cleaning done, not enough, but enough to be proud of. If I get our bedroom vacuumed and the co-sleeper set up tonight, I'll feel like it's safe to DTD in case we start labor!

DH and I dropped DS off at the GP's house on Saturday, so we could take a day trip to King of Prussia Mall. We used to love to go there, and walk and people watch when it was just the two of us. I don;t think we've actually been away together w/o DS for any length of time since DS was born, and I just wanted 1 DAY with DH before the BB comes.

WE HAD A BLAST!!! : I only started to have BHX once, and so we went to get dinner. We went to the Cheesecake Factory, where I had eaten but DH hadn't yet. A nice lady got up and asked me to please take her seat in the waiting area! It was so nice to actually be able to sit and eat our food, adn not have to be battleing DS the whole time, or leave early! And, our server kept my water glass FILLED the whole time! I thanked her, and she told me she knew what it was like to be really thirsty, and have to wait and wait for water.

It was just such a nice time. . .

It seems like DH has finally figured out what it means to be a partner/father. Not that he didn;t help befotre, but lately it seems like his attitude has somehow changed. He's been ASKING what he can do, not just, 'what can I do?' but 'can I do this right now for you?' Please Lord, let this last!

So, I've been having contractions about every 5 minutes for a few hours. They don't hurt, just uncomfortable. So, even having had 3 kids already I have no idea what is happening. I'm kind of just hanging out waiting for them to either go away or intensify. Any thoughts?

Could be the beginning of something? or just some prelabor ctx going on. Have you tried to relax, take a bath, drink lots of water?

I had some ctx going on early last week, which I just put off on the Full Moon, for 3 days I had pressure, crampies, and really strong bh's. Even though this is #8 for me, I always question myself about labor...ugh.
Keep us posted!

Well, keep us updated when you can mama. I will be hoping that either your LO is healthy and super ready to come out or that it's just some getting ready that your body is doing and it will peter out. Either way, maybe try drinking a bunch of water, change positions, get up and move if you're resting or rest if you're moving, take a shower/bath....change SOMETHING (maybe have a glass of wine? or take some Rescue Remedy?).

I've done lots of things... they're still coming but still not hurting. So weird. I'll let you know if anything comes of it. Thanks!

Wow, two pages already! Let's see if I can catch up!

Today dh did a lot of decluttering around the computer area & restored it (can I tell you how much I hate vista???) so it's not so darn slow, for now anyway. He backed up a lot of our files, too. Finally, only been asking him to since January! I did lots of cleaning and straightening up. Made ds a pair of pj's out of a pair of pj pants that were mine, they are super cute! I finished up some burp cloths & baby legs that've been sitting around for quite some time. I can't find the first diaper bag I had for Colin that I was going to pack for the baby's hospital bag, so I dug out a bag I started nearly a year ago and will finish it up tonight and use it. I still have her 'it's a girl' cover to make and a few little things, but darn it if I'm not running out of time, and her blanket is only half done! Enough for newborn pictures, though Tomorrow will be a busy day, going to my mom's to finish ripping out carpet & decluttering/cleaning to make room for us. So much to do, so little time.. definitely feels good to have gotten more stuff done today, even though there's so much more to do!

Kelli, glad you enjoyed your shower even with the awkwardness!

And Caitrin, what a silly gift, I've never heard of anyone doing something like that!

Sorry for those dealing with crampiness I remember that all to well with my first, and am so glad to not have to deal with it so much this time!

Ashley, are you going to post pictures of your belly cast? I was going to do one, but didn't with Colin so decided not to. We'll be moving a lot in the next few years, and it'd probably get destroyed anyway.

Cat, I hope you enjoyed the movie!

Carrie, I'm glad your session went well! Can't wait to see the pictures!

Crabby, glad you had a good breakfast! It's always nice to get a compliment rather then "Aren't you miserable?"

Other Carrie, yay for the birth tub!! How exciting!

The ending to that book pissed. me. off. something fierce. Loved it up 'til then. (The Time Traveler's Wife, that is. Haven't read the other.)

Well, I'm thinking that it can't be labor yet, 'cause it's not October! Keep us updated.

So I was semi-productive today too. Haven't done any cleaning (and the dirty dishes are overflowing ) but I did get some shopping done. Bought pads and depends for after the birth, and some liquid chlorophyll. My midwives like everyone to have it on hand, just in case. I also bought all the stuff to hopefully turn my GPS + into a -. It's a lot of pills and supplements! Especially considering I can't remember to even take my once daily prenatal half the time. Sigh. Anyways, I *think* I have everything I need to take to the birth center for me and baby. Just have to pack the bags now!
