Does anyone know if there is a difference between menstrual crampiness/slight backache and BH ctrx?
Are the menstrual cramp like feelings also BH? It seemed to me that BH made my entire uterus tighten, but the crampiness is really just low down.
Also, it seems like any time I walk anywhere I get BH.

Anyone else feeling that way?

Thinking of all of you in labor today! How exciting! :
Rozziemama, I think they are all considered to be braxton-hicks. I noticed in my past pregnancies that when I began to have crampy period feelings and braxton-hicks that I was within a couple of days of labor. However I've had that for the past couple of evenings with this babe and still feel labor is far off so I'm not sure. It may just be a braxton-hicks variation....lol!

That is exactly what I have been having for weeks. I can def. distinguish between the braxton hicks which like you happen whenever I walk and feel almost constant and the down low menstrual cramps. I also have had that dull low back ache off and on for 5 weeks. It tends to get worse in the evenings. I had a Non Stress Test yesterday that showed that the back pain was actually small contractions which built so gradually it was hard to pin point exact start and stops unless you could just read the print out.

How far along are you? I am 41 weeks today and have been having this stuff since 36 weeks. My midwife thinks I am going to hold out till 42 weeks. We shall see. I am trying to not stress about it. As long as baby is healthy I can wait another week. After 42 weeks we are supposed to try castor oil. I hope I don't have to go there!

Oh and sending ELV to all in labor that is great!! :

I was totally not this way a bit ago but this resurgance of patience is so wonderful. I really really needed it.

The midwife seems to think the baby isn't applying it's head well to my cervix becasue my cervix is still very posterior and hard to reach. She had to push on the baby's but to get it's head to push the cervix down. Is that strange or what? I am going to work on positoning more like hands and knees etc and walk more to see if that helps. The baby's head is engaged but apparently not enough. She said about a -3 station. What do you guys think?
Starzz, so glad you've found some peace and patience. I think all of us still waiting need it, esp you overdue mamas My cervix has always been pretty posterior and eventually my munchkins have made their way out. Some thoughts I had that you might try are lots of walking, and when you sit, sit in a squat. Also, walking up stairs with your feet wide apart is supposed to help settle babies in. And walking on "uneven" ground - so if you were walking along a sidewalk, walk with one foot on the sidewalk and one foot on the street (so long as that's safe!)

And one last thing - do you have a birth ball? They are supposed to really help with getting babies to settle on into the pelvis and into the right position. Sitting on mine helped my posterior baby to turn (and he has stayed turned!). They say rocking on it, or spiraling your hips while sitting on the ball helps bring babies down. HTH!

Thanks for the advice Skrimpy! I do think I should walk more. Unfortunately our birth ball has leak. But I would like to get a new one. We live in the country so that might have to wait till our next stop in the city. We shall see. Walking and stair stepping. Hmm. I might just go try that!

starzz I'm 38+3 today... I was getting these menstrual cramp things all night last night, but they are totally irregular and less frequent today.

I just want my baby to come already I know I just need to be patient.
I think all the comments from friends, family, strangers (!?) telling me how huge i am & how I'll never make it to 40 weeks have gotten to me.
Oy.

39 weeks today and still immensely pregnant! That's how it feels anyways, this past week baby has gotten BIG and I feel like I have a watermelon hanging out in front of me. S/he's heavy!!!

I've been upping my water intake at the recommendation of my doula and it's seriously cut down on the crampy uterus. She reminded me that the uterus is a huge muscle and you wouldn't go into running a marathon dehydrated, so why go into labor that way? So for all you Mommas who are dealing with the crampiness too, how much water are you getting? I'm still getting BH when I'm active with a crampy element, but it's seriously different from the menstrual ache type crampiness that was plaguing me.

Wow, holy birth stories on this DDC batman! I can barely keep up! So here I am unexpectedly still pregnant at 40 weeks and 3 days (went on my due date last time). My youngest sister leaves tomorrow adn I had so hoped she would be here...I can't help but feel impatient . I am sitting at 4 cm dilated and getting cramps but no baby yet. Sigh, I need to chill out and refocus and just wait for the baby to come when it is ready - it is so hard though!!!!!!!

Me but I am Halloween so I SHOULD Still be pregnant LOL

I guess that makes me 38 and 2 today? the 15th being 38 weeks. DD was born at......let's see 9 days pre EDD made her 38 and 5? the other 2 days adding up to 39 weeks plus 7 putting me at exactly 40.

this one is going to go closer if dd is any indication, with her I had three or four sessions of pre-labor (the ctx that come for an hour and leave) during the 10-14 days prior to her birth.

had my first set of those with this one on thurs.

lovin DH since 1/04, best mom for my 3 boys 10/04, 11/08, 11/10 one girlie (1/07), one 13 wk (10/13) and 5/15 just your average multigenerational living family!!

im sorry to come stick my nose in here, as someone who just had a baby and you gals are patiently waiting but i just wanted to come and give ONE word of advice (and yes, unlike me, no more! lol!).

REST!!!!! Zen's birth was incredible but the ONE thing that i did not do enough of before birth was REST. i kept nesting. i kept keeping everything "perfect/ tip top shape", etc. etc.

REST REST REST REST. If i had been more rested, labor would have been sooo much nicer. I felt like i was hit w/ a ton of bricks for 5 hours straight and all i kept thinking about was how tired i was.

Sending everyone labor vibes that needs them esp. you Kelli.

Me. Due in 9 days. lots of contractions that aren't really organized, so not expecting much to happen soon. I have a cold, so I'm kind of hoping she holds off at least a few more days until I'm not congested. Blergh.

thanks for this. i've kind of been obsessing over how gross the kitchen floor is and i just want to FREAKING MOP IT.........but i need to let it go. and make DH do it. just part of my anal-retentiveness.

i'm 39w tomorrow, no signs of pre-labor at all. was induced with DS at 41w, i just can't wait to experience labor beginning naturally, whenever that may be! i start FMLA in one week, so it's all good.

So, I'm still here. Tomorrow I will be 41 weeks. I'm terrified of going over 42 weeks and possibly needing to go to the hospital. I do NOT want a hospital birth, but I'm so terrified to go over 42 weeks I think I wouldn't do well with a home birth. I wasn't expecting this. I'm getting around better these last few weeks than I did when I was 30 weeks, weird huh?

Cassie, I'm feeling better physically, too, these days then I was just a few weeks ago! It's amazing.

I'm 40+2 today.. no sign of labor. I went to 41 with ds, so I'm not worried, but I am quite cranky. Passionatewriter going to so close to 43wks and having a healthy baby and smooth vaginal birth I find so inspirational. It makes me think about all of the 'necessary' inductions that have led to c/s or rough births that probably could have been avoided if the moms had waited it out. I think about you, PW, when I'm feeling cranky and it helps me not to complain so much! I know another person who said her little one was nearly a 45wker! Can you imagine that wait??

I'm due on Friday (24). feeling pretty good. Kind of nostalgic that it'll all be over soon. I had DS at 41 weeks and my practice will let me go until 42 (fluid levels allowing) so I have some time. I had an NST on Friday and it picked up some contractions. I think I have a while to go though.

DS (6.06), DD (10.08), DD (05.11).

i have permission to bring my placenta home from the hospital, i can even keep it in the little fridge in my room the plan is to cut it up and freeze it to make smoothies. dh will have no part of it, so depending on how i feel when i get home, it might just end up planted in the yard, but i do want to eat at least some of it :

I have no right to whine whatsoever cause I am only 37+3... but I have now been pregnant an entire week longer than I carried DS. So in essence, this whole "waiting" thing is new to me, and I'm kind of stumped.

I just don't feel like it's going to happen anytime soon. Cervix is still posterior, baby is at a -3 and doesn't appear to want to drop any further, and I am still 1.5-2cm and 40-50% effaced... no change at all in 2 weeks. Tell me, what is the point in walking if it does nothing to bring the baby down anyway? By 36+1 with DS I was 2cm, 80% effaced and at 0 station, and he was born less than 48 hours later. I know it's better this baby has stayed put longer, but now I am at a loss.

I was in a whirlwind fury again tonight. I am sick of feeling on edge, sick of feeling watched. And sick of my 2.5yo DS refusing to stay in bed. How on earth am I supposed to handle two kids when I can't even handle one???

Thanks for listening to me whine

My due date will be here in 22 hours & 21 minutes, lol. I'm pitiful, huh??

Wonder how far overdue I'll go with this baby? Hopefully not TOO far overdue. Just hoping I don't have a repeat of Friday and that the next time my contractions start she actually comes out this time. I can't wait to meet her!!! I bet she'll be just wonderful! Hopefully my son thinks she's wonderful too, lol... Better enjoy all the time I can with him before she gets here and takes all of his mommy time away from him

If I hear one more person tell me to 'get active' and to walk more I'll scream! It certainly isn't a magic trick to making baby move down. I'm on my feet most of the day, lots of walking, standing and stairs, and baby & cervix are still high (or were last week, anyway). I think maybe for some it *may help, but I also think it's one of those things that your body will do it when it's good and ready, regardless of what you do to help it along, ya know? I was the same with ds, on my feet, lots of walking, and my cervix was still way high until labor.

Though I still walk in hopes that it'll help.. but at over 40 weeks, again! I know it's not really helping all that much!

I'm now 3 days overdue. My mom is driving me crazy, she calls twice a day to see if anything is happening. I keep telling her I'll call her as soon as I go into labor but she still calls. I'm feeling ok though but I'm anxious to meet my little girl.

- can you just ignore the phone when your mom calls? My mom keeps asking "did the midwife say if anything has changed?" which is getting annoying. I keep telling her the mw has no idea when I'm going to give birth anymore than anyone else does! I finally told her I'm not getting any internals done and there's no way to know other than to sit and wonder. And if she keeps calling I'll just let her talk to the machine. Maybe that would help you? Or she might just think you're in labor lol. But being a watched pot is really hard so maybe you can figure something out.
