Replaced all my dishtowels and dishrags (not sure what was wrong with mine???)
Replaced all the abrs of soap in the house (I had to hide my favroite bar)
Bought me a new grater (mine only has 2 sies- I needed a 4-sided one)
Ironed all my clothes
Graciously shared her Enquirer and Globe magazines with me
Hung all our laundry up to dry
Cooked potato pancakes
Cooked Cauliflower soup
Cooked Zuchini Soup
Made fruit compote
Made bean salad
Done all the dishes
Cleaned the blinds
Cleaned the basement
Tried to put away the big pile of books I had for goodwill (she thought I needed help putting them on the bookshelves)
Tried to buy me a new vacuum (ours is too heavy for her to use and she wanted to vac the house- FIL wouldn't let her).

And she has only been here 3 days!

Suzan, mama to DS 9-18-07 and #2 EDD 3/4/10 GIRL!.

Ah reminds me of my Grandma when I was a kid she wasn't at our house for 5 minutes before she was scrubbing clothes on the scrub board and wiping down the walls with purex! My mom always just let her do her thang even though it made her nuts.

That is wonderful.

I came in from the front page. I'm always up for a good MIL rant, which was what I was expecting when I saw your thread title. Instead, I am feeling all warm and fuzzy inside!! Hug that MIL extra tight for us.

Yes, this! :

I don't come here anymore. MDC has become overgrown with ads & useless extra forums.

send her to me!

seriously . . . .I imagine that it *could* be annoying, but it sounds like she's coming from a place of such goodwill and love, that you just have to smile.

: My mom is like this. She's not happy at our house unless she's doing something to help - it's one of the ways she shows her love. I used to try and get her to sit and have a "proper" visit, but now I just make some tea and ask if she'd like to help me fold the laundry.

My mother, among many MANY other things she did, decided to pick the hair out of my brush and organize my husband's underwear drawer. I know it's meant to be kind, but. Hmm.

Too sweet! When my Venezuelan MIL came to stay with us when DS was born I woke one morning to find all of the stuffing from my throw pillows on the floor in our living room. I already cleaned the house top to bottom before she came so to keep busy helping out, she decided to take out the stuffing, soak the covers and then sew in a zipper so I could wash them in the future. At the time I was a little taken back but I love her so much for wanting to help. And those meals she made!!

I'm from Poland too. My grandmother who lives in Poland, but also visits me, will get off the plane after 20 plus hours of travel, and immediately ask me where the vacuum is as soon as we get home.

I gotta say - I love when she visits. All meals are made, everything is clean, my laundry is not only hung to dry, but also ironed - including sheets.

Now, I'm not a slave driver. I TRY to stop her and try to get her to relax. But, she's really unstoppable. My dp and I just sit back and enjoy it.

She sounds exactly like my Taiwanese MIL...except she's such a horrible cook, my DH won't allow his mother to prepare food for us!

when she's done at your's, and the pp's houses, send her over here!

just kidding, but seriously, i have issues with people doing my housework. it makes me feel like i can't clean up after myself. it would make me terribly uncomfortable to have someone else do all that at my house! i'm not sure what that says about me..

I could use some help with the real cleaning. I've got meals, laundry and dishes handled; everything else overwhelms me lately.

Enjoy it, try not to let it make you bonkers!

You don’t owe them an explanation, just a response.

That list cracks me up because that sounds like when my Polish mother-in-law comes to visit. I've finally gotten her to understand that I'd rather the kids be with her than getting my dishtowels ironed (yes you did read that correctly). I learned early on that there is nothing wrong with what I'm doing, she just wanted to be useful. We let her cook food when the kids are in bed and we eat it later or frozen it so we get "Babcia meals" way after she's gone.

I always got the "you are too skinny! eat! eat! eat!" from the Polish and Ukranian Grandmas. I could be 500 pounds and I would still be too skinny.
